A TRIO of Basingstoke and Mid Hants athletes travelled to Boston, in Lincolnshire, to compete in the English Schools Combined Events Championships.

Gemma Finch was sixth in the under-20 heptathlon with a personal-best points tally of 4,396. Malachi Gair also achieved a personal best, amassing 2,567 points to finish 14th in the under-15 boys pentathlon, while Amelia Cook was 24th in the under-15 girls pentathlon.

Junior members of the Down Grange club were rewarded for their impressive performances over the course of the summer at a special awards evening.

Luca Chiossone and Mair Edwards were winners of the prestigious John Lansley Award, with Edwards making it a double by also collecting the Colin Robinson Award for best sprint performance. Charlie Sheridan won the Ian Stevenson Award for middle distance runners, while Ali Johnson and Isabel Parker were Most Promising Newcomers.

At under-13 level, Ben Pattison and Catherine Edwards won the track awards, Reece Newell and Ella Thomson were the field award winners and Joe Gibson and Rebecca Poole picked up the winter awards.

Harry Richardson and Edwards won the track awards for under-15s, with Gair and Amelia Cook winning in the field. James Beeks and Lucy Wildash were the winter winners.

The under-17 track awards were won by Owen Richardson and Devon Brimecome. Jack Burkhill and Evie Wilcox won the field awards and Ollie Butler and Gemma Wildash the winter awards.

At under-20 level, Tobin Hatton-Brown won the men’s award, with Finch taking the women’s title.
