HAMPSHIRE coach Dale Benkenstein admits the next four days will define the county’s season.
Promotion was the main objective when Benkenstein arrived six months ago. If Hampshire beat Glamorgan in Cardiff (10.30am start) it will be achieved.
“Coming in, one of the mandates, with my experience in the Championship, was to try to get them to improve their four-day cricket and their outlook on four-day cricket,” said the former Durham captain.
“They had a tendency to almost drop off in four-day cricket and not see it as much of a challenge or a game they wanted to play because of their success in Twenty20.”
That has changed under Benkenstein this season.
“It’s a great feeling going into your last match with everything to play for – it’s why you play the game,” said Benkenstein. “There’s a lot riding on it but one match doesn’t determine whether you’re a good side or not. All of the things we have done well all season will hopefully continue in this game and the result will look after itself.”
Hampshire: Adams, Smith, Dawson, Vince, Alsop, Wheater, Ervine, Coles, Wood, Tahir, Tomlinson.
