A MAGNIFICENT seven wicket haul from Shane Brewer made sure Hook and Newnham Basics, won their final Southern League Division One game of the season, by four wickets at Andover.

Both sides went into the game, knowing if they lost and Fawley won they would be relegated, but the south Hampshire side lost at Hursley Park and so the result between Hook and Andover did not matter in the end.

Opening bowler Brewer (7-17) did not know this as he ripped through the home batting order, as they were slumped to 49-8.

Captain Mike Adams (20) and top scorer Daniel Foy (39) batting at number 10, made sure Andover had some score to defend as they were all out for 121.

Hook’s reply got off to good start as Ben Thane (31) and Jordan Hobday (11) put on 47 for the first wicket.

Kieran Thomson (30) kept the innings going in the right direction, until three wicket fell for three run to leave the visitors on 107-6.

It was left to Ben Allnutt and Spencer Champ to make sure of the victory with 14 overs to spare.
