Saints have played their part in a record £725m being spent by Premier League clubs so far this summer.

A report by accountancy firm Deloitte has revealed that top-flight clubs have spent nearly three-quarters-of-a-billion pounds in the transfer window since it reopened at the end of last season.

That figure smashes last year's record spend of £630m.

Saints’ own player acquisitions this summer have contributed around £45m, while the club have also sold about £90m worth of players to other clubs in the division.

The penchant for English clubs to buy from abroad has continued, with around £475m of the current overall total going on players from overseas.

Manchester United have been the biggest spenders in the market, parting with over £130m to sign Saints defender Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria, who joined for a British record fee of £59.7m on Tuesday.

And with plenty of time to go until Monday's 11pm deadline, further spending is expected.

Dan Jones, partner in the sports business group, a branch of Deloitte, said: “There are a number of factors contributing to this summer’s spend, including the showcase for global talent a World Cup provides.

“However, one of the main drivers of Premier League spending continues to be the increased resources clubs now have as a result of improved broadcast deals.

“Last season, the average Premier League club received around £25m more in central broadcast distributions than they did in 2012/13, which helped fuel a record transfer window last summer.

“We are again seeing Premier League clubs use these resources to contribute to what is a new record this summer.”

You are both very silly little people .. does your nurse know you have plugged the computer in? ..

As for the spending comment - could you get the reading teacher to run through the article with you again then get the arithmetic lady to explain what to do when the numbers exceed the number of fingers and toes.

To Truthteller and Moaningpeople can I cheer you up by reminding you that there are probably at least 10 teams who could be deemed possible relegation candidates. I also have to tell you that the Saints are NOT one of those 10 teams.

I know the WBA game was not special, But if you watched the 2nd half at Anfield you would know that our team is very good. About now the only other person who tips Saints to go down is Robbie Savage. That I think confirms relegation for us a huge improbability. Now, you should also see that.

Stopmoaning , the £725 million is the PL's total spend, not Saints - wish it were, perhaps!

So you must already be going to that rubbish stadium along the coast. Why don't you just do as your handle says, "Tell the Truth" and admit to being a closet poopy fan!
The only way you will be playing close to Southampton is playing Eastleigh, either in the forth div' (compared to the great Saints, you are in the 4th div) or staying in that league, but what would be better is poopy swapping places with them next season!

Grief, peeps! Clearly one skunt with two log ins and too much time on its hands. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hhhh the fecker and enjoy supporting our team, which is so far ahead of that slime of a club that it couldn't catch Saints if it tied the entire club to a mountain and set off to catch us in an RAF jet.

As for this spending spree, sick though so much money washing about at this end of the football ladder is (compared to, say, League 2), I wonder how much of it is 'real money already handed over' and how much is 'money yet to change hands, but factored in as future payments'.

Having got £90+ Million selling the team and only replacing them with Z listed players and loan players costing £45 Million the owners of Saints have banked £45+ Million. They are still short of at least 2 key players and don't seem in any hurry to pay out and get top class players to fill these important gaps in the team, depite the transfer window closing soon.

The questions one has to ask are :-

1. When will the cub be put up for sale.

2. Its looking certain now, that at the end of the current season Saints
will be in the relegation zone once more.
