HOOK touring car driver Rob Collard was delighted with his performance at Knockhill, which saw him recover from a heavy penalty to win a race.

Collard was relegated to the back of the grid due a penalty from the last meeting at Snetterton.

He moved up 19 places to finish 12th in race one, before finishing fifth in the second event and winning race three.

Collard said: “We had a plan for the day having saved some tyres from qualifying and it worked better than we expected. It was a great feeling to win again.”
It was also an excellent day for his team-mate, Odiham’s Nick Foster, as he collected his highest finish of the season with a fourth in race three.

Foster said: “I really wanted the podium finish in the final race and it was frustrating as I felt I had the pace, but was behind my teammate Colin (Turkington), who was happy to stay third and not attack Dave Newsham.”

“It still was a great day for me with three finishes in the top 10.”

Basingstoke Skip Hire-backed Ginetta Junior driver Jack Rawles enjoyed qualifying on his birthday as he ended up sixth on the grid.

However, after a good start in his first race later on the same day which saw him move up to fourth, he was knocked off the track and had to settle for 13th.

The following day he settled into seventh for most the race, before being beaten over the line and he came eighth.

Rawles said: “I was a mixed bag of a weekend, but overall it was a decent points haul.”

Rob Collard’s eldest son, Ricky, was racing in the Formula Ford Championship and like his father had an excellent time at Knockhill.

He finished third, fourth and sixth, but won the scholarship class in race two after coming second in his first outing.

The results left him sixth overall in the championship and second in the scholarship.

Dad Rob was impressed with the teenager and said: “I think this was the best I have seen Ricky drive this season, especially in the first race which was on drying track.”

Collard’s other son, Jordan, was also in action in the British Karting Championship at Shenington.

He finished in the top 10 in the heats and was then fifth in the pre-final, before being knocked off in the A Final after being placed sixth and fought his way back up to 15th.

He will be action in the final round of the British Championship on Sunday September 7, which is also the date for the next BTCC meeting at Rockingham.
