HARTLEY Wintney kept alive their chances of straight return back to Southern League Division One, after they beat visiting promotion rivals Calmore Sports by 79 runs on Saturday.

It now comes down to the final weekend of the season, with third placed Hartley away at relegation Totton & Eling II, while Sparsholt who sit in the final promotion spot entertain Langley Manor, who are still trying to avoid the drop.

Defeat for Sparsholt and victory for Hartley would see the village side promoted.

Against Calmore, Ari Karvelas was the star of the show, with a superb 148, off 87 balls, which included 13 fours and nine sixes.

He shared a century fourth wicket stand with Will Ross (31), as the home side posted a massive 305-9 from their 50 overs.

Calmore were in trouble early on as Chris Jolley (4-24) removed most of the top order and they slumped to 57-4 Matt Taylor (111 not out) staged a fight back, but the visitors in the end were bowled out for 226, as Mark Teale (2-31) and Karvelas (2-40) got amongst the tail.
