ATHLETICS: WHITCHURCH sprinter Moira West has her sights set on the European Masters Championships after winning four national titles.

The 65-year-old claimed gold in the 100m, 200m, 400m and long jump in the 65-69 age-group at Alexander Stadium, in Birmingham, over the weekend.

She clocked 15.29sec to win the 100m, 31.58sec to finish first in the 200m and 74.90sec to pick up a third gold medal in the 400m. West also tried her hand at the long jump, leaping to victory with a jump of 3.92m.

The Winchester and District athlete’s next competition will be the European championships, which get under way in Izmir, in Turkey, this weekend. She will compete in the 100m, 200m and 400m.

“I was really pleased with my performance at the British championships and it was good preparation for the Europeans,” West said.

“I would like to be placed in all three events but I think the 400m is the event I have the best chance of winning.”
