READING moved up to seventh spot in the Championship, as they beat visiting Ipswich 1-0.

The home side won a scrappy game, thanks to Jake Taylor’s first goal for the club.

The winger made the most of a defensive error, as the visitors failed to deal with a long ball and he fired in from a tight angle past Dean Gerken.

The Tractor Boys came close to an equaliser with Luke Chambers’ shot blocked on the line by Jordan Obita.

Then in the final minute, Tyrone Mings’ header was knocked up onto the crossbar by Shaun Cummings.

Reading boss Nigel Adkins said: “This was a great character win, as the young lads played with great heart and desire and this can only bode well for the rest of the season.”

The Royals are in action again on Tuesday night (kick-off 8pm), when they entertain winless bottom placed side Huddersfield.
