AFC ALDERMASTON will line up for the 2014-15 season in the newly-formed Thames Valley Premier League after switching leagues over the summer.
Terry Rooney’s men finished 10th in the Hampshire Premier League last season but decided to move in order to cut down their travelling, with their ultimate aim being promotion to the Hellenic League.
They get their season under way on Wednesday, hosting Wraysbury Village, and manager Rooney is looking forward to the new challenge.
“I have stuck my neck on the line, saying that moving would be a good thing for the club, and we have told the lads that it is not a backwards step,” he said. “It’s the same tier as the Hampshire Premier League and we are in the competition to make an impact.
“We want to challenge near the top of the table and need to hit the ground running because there are some good sides. I have basically the same squad I had last year but every game will be interesting because we don’t know anything about the sides we are coming up against.”
