Anglers gather for charity event

THIS weekend sees the annual charity event in aid of Jacksplace (Naomi House) – a very worthwhile cause as it caters for sick and terminally ill children.

The match will be spread over the entire Stacey’s complex and Adventure Angling Club have kindly donated their Willow Pool for the event. Tadley Angling puts up the bulk of the raffle prizes, but donations from individuals will be gratefully received.

Stacey’s supremo Keith Brown is in charge on the day, so if you wish to make a donation, call him on 07771 975753.

Breakfast rolls will be served on the island at Whitehouse Lake from 7am and after the event there will be a barbecue at Old Barlows Lake, where the raffle will be drawn.

Adventure AS took themselves off to Colman’s Cottage Lakes in Essex for a two-day event in which 16 anglers took part.

Day one was on Pathfield Lake and Martin Wickens topped out with 216lb 4oz of carp on pole and dead red maggots. Darren Wright fished casters and pole for his 146lb 2oz of carp. Kevin Smith weighed in with 144lb 8oz, while Nick Sargent caught 138lb.

On day two, this time at Wood Lake, Wickens topped out again with 208lb of carp on pole and dead red maggots. Gary Herman was second on 158lb on pole and corn. Dave Stratford-Way came next with 135lb 6oz, followed by Nick Sargent on 106lb.

Overall winner was, of course, Wickens, followed by Smith, with Sargent and Wright tied for third.

Basingstoke Railway Club fished Cove Pitt at Theale, where Trevor Matthews put the field to the sword with 172lb 8oz of carp on pole and corn over pellet.

Keith Brown came second with 156lb of carp on pole and maggot. Yours truly caught 108lb 6oz on pole, paste and corn, while Lyn Matthews weighed 98lb 14oz on pole and corn. All 16 that fished caught.

Camrose AS went to Soke Road for their latest match and Danny Williams came up trumps with 26lb of mixed on pole and paste. Tony Holdsworth’s even 23lb of carp fell to pole and pellet.

Pete Morris came next with 19lb 7oz, followed by Colin Thomas on an even 19lb.

Thirteen fished and caught.

Oxoid AC were at New Barlows last week and it was Pete Lovegrove who topped out with 29lb 14oz of carp and bream on pole and pellet. Shelton Caswell put 24lb 3oz of method caught carp and bream in the sack. Pete Matthews’ 18lb 12oz was next, followed by Del Baulsom with 13lb 6oz.

Twelve fished and caught.

Kennet Ospreys’ match at Greenridge Farm saw Paul Barnard win with 106lb of carp on pole and caster.

Dave Docherty made second place on 101lb 8oz, again pole and caster. Gary Stainer came next with 91lb, followed by Tomasz Wojcik on 72lb and Mark Parsons on 67lb.

Thirty-three fished and caught.

Adventures’ match at Chaley Park was a good day for some, namely Sean Shiles, who weighed 42lb 8oz of carp on the pole and method. Mark Blackmon’s 38lb of carp was method and pole affair. Wright caught 28lb, Stratford-Way caught 27lb 4oz and Scott Nelson’s one carp weighed 18lb.

Twenty fished and Kev Bev blanked.

Catch me next week.
