VIDEO REACTION

9:43pm

9:43pm

So Town are off the mark. It was a really strange game. Not that much between the sides, but Bath were terrible defensively and Town clinical in attack.

Interestingly, Hemel Hempstead were beaten 6-0 today by Boreham Wood. They must be some team!

Reaction to follow.

9:38pm

Bath City 0-4 Basingstoke Town

9:37pm

92 - Watkins meets a corner at the far post, but his header goes into the side-netting. There's the final whistle.

9:36pm

91 - Pratt bundles his way into the Town area before pulling the ball back to Watkins, but his mis-hit shot bobbles just wide.

9:35pm

90 - Incredible pass from Jenkinson, but Bird fails to control. Two minutes of added time to play.

9:32pm

87 - Stearn puts in a free-kick, which deflects awkwardly off the head of Soares, forcing Henly to palm it around the post. The corner comes to nothing.

9:30pm

86 - Simon Dunn has a shot from outside the area. Not far wide.

9:27pm

9:27pm

82 - A promising Bath attack, but Town manage to smuggle the ball away.

9:26pm

81 - Watkins heads at goal from around the penalty spot, but he can't find the target.

9:24pm

79 - Basingstoke Town - Louie Soares on for Shaun McAuley

9:23pm

79 - McAuley lets fly from distance but it's wide.

9:22pm

77 - Basingstoke Town - Sam Argent on for Liam Enver-Marum

A debut for Argent. Can he get in on the act?

9:20pm

76 - Bird crosses from the left, but Bath goalkeeper Mellor claims.

9:19pm

74 - Stearn cuts in from the left, but his shot from long range is straight at Henly.

9:18pm

73 - Town break through Flood, but cannot find Enver-Marum when the angle gets too tight, fizzing the ball across goal far too hard.

9:16pm

72 - Stearn wins a free-kick in a central area 25 yards from the Town goal. He shoots but it's poor, straight into the wall.

9:13pm

68 - Artus lets fly from distance, but it's wide of the goal and Henly watches it flash past the post.

9:10pm

66 - DISALLOWED GOAL

Bird's cross from the left is met by Chris Flood, who nods home well, but the flag is up for offside.

9:09pm

65 - Flood does well to play Enver-Marum in down the right. His low cross-shot only finds Bath goalkeeper Jason Mellor at the near post though.

9:07pm

63 - Bath have been the better side since the break, but that's another clear chance for the visitors. Enver-Marum beats the offside trap but flashes his shot across the face of goal from a tight angle.

9:03pm

58 - Pratt beats Andrew Jenkinson to a loose ball and breaks, but his pass is poor. An opportunity wasted for the hosts.

9:02pm

57 - Enver-Marum is played in down the left, but Town can only win a corner.

9:00pm

54 - Bath certainly haven't given up. Watkins chases a lost cause into the left-hand corner and crosses for Pratt, whose diving header just clears the crossbar.

Tonight's attendance is 459.

8:58pm

52 - Bath City - Ross Stearn on for Chas Hemmings

8:57pm

52 - Good run from Watkins down the Bath right and he tees up Artus, but the midfielder fires way over the crossbar.

8:55pm

50 - Williams sets McAuley away on the break and it's a dangerous one, but his pass leaves Enver-Marum with too much to do and he is tackled. There might be more goals here if Town want them.

8:53pm

48 - Bird crosses from the left and Artus needlessly gives a corner away, but Town cannot capitalise.

8:51pm

8:50pm

Town get the second half started.

8:46pm

At the Madejski Stadium, Reading are 1-0 up against Newport County thanks to Pavel Pogrebnyak. It's now half-time there as well.

8:43pm

Right, having just been given the first goal, it has been taken away from Chris Flood and will go into the record books as an Andy Gallinagh own-goal.

8:41pm

8:39pm

8:39pm

Wow, what a first half. In general play, there really hasn't been much in it, but Bath have defended so badly it's untrue.

They seem to be trying to play a high line defensively, and when it's broken, they are all over the place.

8:35pm

Bath City 0-4 Basingstoke Town

8:34pm

45+1 - Great play from McAuley, who has been outstanding in this half, but he can't find an end product this time.

8:32pm

There will be two added minutes at the end of the half.

8:30pm

43 - A cross from the right causes problems in the Town area as Henly is glued to his line, but Watkins can't direct his header on target and Pratt is unable to pick up the pieces.

8:29pm

42 - Tom Bird has a go from a long-range free-kick. Not far over.

8:28pm

8:26pm

35 - Liam Enver-Marum - Basingstoke Town

Enver-Marum gets booked after an aerial clash with Dan Ball.

8:25pm

34 - Bath City - Sekani Simpson on for Martin Slocombe

Slocombe gets the hook early and heads straight down the tunnel. Simpson conceded two penalties on Saturday. Interesting.

8:16pm

29 - Bath City 0-4 Basingstoke Town - Liam Enver-Marum

A quick ball forward from goalkeeper Jonathan Henly finds Flood and he passes square for a totally unmarked LIAM ENVER-MARUM, who slots home to complete an excellent half-an-hour for Town.

8:14pm

27 - Bath City 0-3 Basingstoke Town - Chris Flood

More terrible defending from the hosts allows CHRIS FLOOD to take a touch on the six-yard line before volleying into the roof of the net.

8:13pm

25 - Martin Slocombe crosses from the Bath left and finds Watkins, but he cannot get high enough to head on target. Might have been a better chance for Pratt behind him.

8:08pm

19 - Almost a goal for Bath, Ashley Kington flashing an angled shot across the face of goal.

8:05pm

18 - Bath City 0-2 Basingstoke Town - Manny Williams

More horrible defending from the hosts. A spell of pressure ends in a low ball in from the right from Shaun McAuley that just evades both Flood and Enver-Marum.

MANNY WILLIAMS picks the ball up at the far post, takes a touch to improve the angle and smashes the ball in off the post.

8:04pm

17 - More good play from Artus, whose dinked ball into the area finds Andy Watkins, but he heads wide from a narrow angle.

8:00pm

14 - Town win a couple of corners, but Bath see the danger off.

8:00pm

12 - A nice move from Bath leads to a decent headed chance for Frankie Artus, but he nods over the crossbar.

7:59pm

7 - Almost an immediate response as Chris Allen's free-kick flies across the face of goal.

7:53pm

6 - Bath City 0-1 Basingstoke Town - Andy Gallinagh

That's Town's first goal of the season. A low ball in from the right is allowed to roll across the face of the Bath six-yard box and Chris Flood and Andy Gallinagh battle for the ball.

Gallinagh seemed to get there first, sending the ball looping into his own net, but Flood runs away in celebration.

7:52pm

Pratt seems to be playing on the right wing of a 4-5-1 system for Bath. Town are operating a midfield diamond.

7:51pm

4 - Shaun McAuley gets into the Bath area but he's denied a chance by a good challenge.

7:50pm

2 - Good play from Pratt to escape a couple of challenges, but Gasson gets a foot in on Hemmings.

7:49pm

1 - Chas Hemmings - Bath City

Just six seconds on the clock and Hemmings goes into the book after clashing with Gasson battling for a high ball.

7:47pm

And we are under way.

7:47pm

Jay Gasson is Town's captain tonight. Bath are ready to kick-off, while Town will shoot down the slope in the first half.

7:44pm

Here come the teams. Bath's numbers look incredibly difficult to read. Could be an interesting evening.

7:43pm

We are three minutes from kick-off and, right on cue, it's started to rain. Doesn't look like it will amount to much though.

7:36pm

The teams have gone in to make their final preparations. The subs seem to be doing better at shooting practice.

7:31pm

Town doing a bit of shooting practice. As usual, very few are going in. Hope it's not a sign of things to come.

7:26pm

Got a bit of time before kick-off, so let's have some score predictions. I'm going for 1-1. Let me know what you think using the comment box at the bottom of the page or #BasTown on Twitter.

7:24pm

7:18pm

The players are out warming up in pleasent evening sunshine. Let's hope the weather holds out.

7:17pm

You can have your say on tonight's game, and all things Basingstoke Town, using the comment box at the bottom of the page or #BasTown on Twitter.

I'll use any suitable submissions in the coverage.

7:12pm

Reading are also in action this evening, hosting Newport County in the League Cup. I'll do my best to keep you up to date with how they are getting on.

7:11pm

Both sides lost their opening games of the season on Saturday. Town went down 1-0 at home to Hemel Hempstead, while Bath fared even worse, losing 3-0 away at Concord Rangers.

That was a big surprise to me. I still expect Bath to have a good season. They looked a good side last year and have kept the squad together, adding some of Weston-super-Mare's best players.

7:07pm

TEAMS

Bath City: Mellor, Gallinagh, Slocombe, Ball, Walsh, Allen, Artus, Kington, Pratt, Watkins, Hemmings. Subs: Bowman, Stearn, Adelsbury, Keary, Simpson.

Basingstoke Town: Henly, Smart, Bird, Jenkinson, Gasson, Rice, Dunn, McAuley, Flood, Enver-Marum, Williams. Subs: Ray, Soares, Macklin, Argent, Owusu.

7:03pm

TEAM NEWS

A little bit of a surprise from Town manager Jason Bristow. He wasn't happy with his side's performance in defeat to Hemel Hempstead on Saturday but he has given the same starting 11 a chance to put things right.

Nicholas Bignall is not involved. I'll try to find out how bad his injury is later.

Former Town striker David Pratt starts for Bath, but their manager has also thrown a curveball, leaving winger Ross Stearn, who has always really impressed me, on the bench.

6:57pm

For the first time, I made the trip to an away game on the coach. An interesting experience. Goalkeeper Jon Henly spent the entire trip asleep. Let's hope he's woken up by the time the game gets under way.

6:52pm

It's bright and sunny at the moment, but there are plenty of showers around. The pitch looks in decent shape.

6:45pm

Good evening and welcome to live text commentary of Basingstoke Town's opening away game of the Vanarama Conference South season. We are at Twerton Park, home of Bath City.
