IT HAS been a successful summer for Basingstoke and North Hants Cricket Club’s girls teams.

The under-13s have won two competitions – the Hampshire Cup and the North Hampshire League 15/15 Cup – while the under-16s reached the final of the Hampshire Cup.

In the semi-finals of the Hampshire Cup, the under-13s faced Hursley Park. Batting first, they made 147, Kate Murphy top-scoring with 23 not out, before restricting their opposition to just 81, with Molly Dewey taking 2-2.

Basingstoke were due to face Lymington in the final, but they could not raise a team, so Hursley Park were handed a reprieve. They could not improve their semi-final result, losing by 25 runs.

In the 15/15 competition, Basingstoke faced Finchampstead in the last four. Ruth Warner top-scored with an unbeaten 33 as Basingstoke reached 156 from their 15 eight-ball overs, while tight bowling restricted the opposition to 74, giving the Bounty girls an 82-run victory.

Basingstoke met Eversley in the final. Eversley batted first and were restricted to 99 thanks to some tight bowling from Warner (2-14), Dewey (1-7) and Jasmine Rampton (1-26). Jess Head made an unbeaten 33 as Basingstoke reached their target to win by three wickets, with 10 balls to spare.

The under-16s beat Aldershot in the semi-finals of the Hampshire Cup thanks to Rosie Traynor’s 30 not out and Phoebe Al-Noah’s bowling figures of 3-24.

Sadly, the Bountygirls were unable to claim victory in the final, losing by eight wickets to Hursley Park.

The club are on the lookout for more girls to join. Anyone interested should email basingstokegirlscricket@gmail.com for more information
