WHITCHURCH United came from behind to beat nine-man Fareham Town in the opening game of their Wessex League Premier Division campaign on Saturday.

A mistake from Whitchurch goalkeeper Brad Snelling, whose clearance hit one of his own defenders, gave Rudi Plummer the chance to open the scoring after just four minutes.

However, the Fareham striker was shown a red card soon after and the Jam Boys pulled level before half-time, Danny Phillips pulling the ball back for Jack Garner to sidefoot home.

Whitchurch got their noses in front in the early stages of the second half, Elliott Parker heading home from a corner, while Fareham ended the game with just nine men as Wayne Boud became the second home player to receive his marching orders.

Whitchurch are back in action on Wednesday night, hosting Bemberton Heath Harlequins, while they welcome Blackfield and Langley to Longmeadow on Saturday.
