JUSTIN Rose claimed a share of fourth place at the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational.

The north Hampshire golfer went into yesterday’s final round six shots behind the leader and held his position during the final day, carding a one-under-par round of 69.

An eagle three at the par-five second hole moved Rose closer to the top of the leaderboard, but bogeys at holes five and six saw him slip back to level par for the day.

Birdies at the seventh and 12th holes got him back to -2, but a bogey at the 15th meant he had to settle for a final score of -9, six shots behind eventual winner Rory McIlroy.

Rose had been challenging at the top of the leaderboard in the early stages of the tournament, held at Firestone CC, in Ohio.

An opening round of 65 (-5) had him one shot off the lead, while he was second, three strokes behind the leader after a second round of 67 (-3).

A level-par third round of 70 saw the 34-year-old slip to fourth, and he did well enough in the final round to hold on to that position.

Rose is in action again this weekend, travelling to Valhalla, in Kentucky, to play in the PGA Championship, the final major of the year.
