HOOK and Newnham Basics suffered a five wicket loss at the hands of visiting Liphook and Ripsley in their rain affected Southern League Division One game.

Home side skipper Matt Love won the toss and decided to bat, but after 8.5 overs rain forced a break in the match.

With conditions now against them, Hook found life difficult and only Josh Buckingham (44) and Spencer Champ (27) troubled the scorers, as the top of the order had a rare off day.

Hook were bowled out for 157 and due to the loss of time in their innings, the total was further reduced to 147 off 43 overs.

So it was no real surprise when the visitors reached their target, with Suman Ganguly scoring an unbeaten 55.

This week, Hook have their longest trip of the season to fourth placed Bournemouth.
