IT IS ALL change at Whitchurch United ahead of the big Wessex League Premier Division kick-off, with a new manager and a new team for the Longmeadow club.

Jim Macey resigned as boss over the summer and was replaced by Carl Bennett. He has brought several players with him from former club Romsey and just four members of last season’s squad, Adam Pearson, Scott Hassell, Tom Lockyer and Shane Lock, remain at the club.

Bennett said: “I found it very difficult to get hold of a lot of the players who had been at the club last year and, as a result, only four of them are still here.

“We do not want to set our targets too high but we would like to emulate last year and finish in mid-table. I do not want to put too much pressure on a brand new side.”

The Jam Boys begin their league campaign with a trip to Fareham Town, who finished 10th last season, on Saturday. Tuesday night sees them host Bemberton Heath Harlequins in their first home game.

“Fareham is the perfect opening game because they were exactly in the middle of the table last year,” Bennett added. “How we do against them and Bemberton Heath will be a good gauge of where we are at.”
