SAM Bruin’s century helped Hook and Newnham Basics II to an emphatic 156-run victory over visiting Rowledge II in Hampshire Cricket League County Division One.

The Hook batsman smashed his way to 112 as Hook reached 278-8, while Kish Parmer then took 6-21 as the visitors were dismissed for just 122 in reply.

Basingstoke and North Hants III’s problems continued in Division Two as they went down to an eight-wicket defeat away at Bedhampton. Joe Oates made 70 as the visitors were bowled out for 199, a total they were unable to defend.

Rex Porter hit an unbeaten 102 to guide Hartley Wintney II to a five-wicket victory away at OTs and Romsey III. William Kerr took 3-34 as the hosts were bowled out for 204, before Porter’s ton saw his side over the line.

Struggling Whitchurch recorded a rare victory over hosts Hook and Newnham Basics III, bowling the home side out for 66 before knocking off the runs for a seven-wicket win.

Overton suffered a 178-run defeat against South Wilts III, being bowled out for 136 after the visitors had made 318-6.

Both local sides in Division Four North enjoyed big wins. Fourth-placed Hobos beat visiting Wherwell by 112 runs, while AWE Tadley battered hosts Holybourne by a 182-run margin.

Imbrad Ghouse made 82 as Hobos were bowled out for 302, but Wherwell could only muster 190 in reply. James Lovegrove made an unbeaten 83 and Will Bellfield hit 73 as AWE reached 233-4, while Michael Deller-Merricks then took 4-5 as Holybourne were bowled out for just 51.
