Saints midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin to sit out friendly against Brighton

Schneiderlin to sit out friendly against Brighton

First published in Sport

Midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is unlikely to be involved in Saints’ trip to Brighton tonight – but only because of fitness reasons.

Saints visit the Amex Stadium this evening for their penultimate friendly of the summer, with French star Schneiderlin back among the squad after returning to Southampton this week.

The 24-year-old is unhappy after being informed that he will not be allowed to leave St Mary’s, like Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers before him.

Schneiderlin issued a message via Twitter on Tuesday night, saying the “amazing journey”

he had been on with Saints in the last six years had been “destroyed”.

That followed a meeting that is understood to have taken place with the club’s board, in which he was informed he would not be sold.

Chairman Ralph Krueger also told the Daily Echo that neither Schneiderlin nor fellow Tottenham target Jay Rodriguez would be allowed to depart.

Schneiderlin reported to the club’s training ground as normal yesterday morning, where he spoke with Koeman.

It was alleged in some sections of the media that he had also handed in a transfer request, although sources at St Mary’s and close to Schneiderlin indicated that was not true.

As far as the club is concerned, Schneiderlin, left, remains available to be used as manager Ronald Koeman sees fit, after being informed he is an integral part of the Dutchman’s plans for the campaign.

However, having only just started his preseason preparations, after a late return date due to his involvement with the France squad that reached the quarter- finals of the World Cup, Schneiderlin is unlikely to be ready for action this evening.

Saints boss Koeman will make a final decision today on whether he will travel, though.

Tonight’s fixture promises to be Saints’ toughest test of preseason so far, against a Brighton side that reached the Championship playoffs last term.

Saints have already played games against Dutch amateurs EHC Hoensbroek, Belgian minnows Sporting Hasselt, League One outfit Swindon Town and Championship team Bournemouth – winning all four games without conceding a goal.

After tonight’s match, the only game left on the schedule before the Premier League kicks-off is a meeting with German club Bayer Leverkusen at St Mary’s on Saturday, August 9.

A classy gentleman who deserved better than he was dealt by our board at the time. I doubt he would consider coming back. He's busy making his way down another path and I doubt his ethics would allow him to just walk away from one club to another unless all the correct procedural and protocol boxes were ticked. He'll be an asset and an example no matter where he goes - just a shame his time with us was cut so nastily short.
I would struggle to find one bad thing to say about the way he conducted himself with us. Thanks damoose.

One certainty that has smacked all the Southampton Supporters in the face is the Players that achieved so much last season and got 100% vocal support did not want to continue the revolution and progress for the new season to achieve CLF, was it a pact with The Deceitful Liar that they knew he was leaving so they said if that's the case we want to leave,it appears money was the real reason and that CLF was the cover to get a transfer and that the Player think that the Board of Southampton FC and the Supporters are gullible and all washed up with the Tide and believe anything, it's not Rocket science .

I haven't a clue how the Club does business when a Manager resigns especially as his remaining contract had to be paid which apparently was paid by Levy, perhaps there is a clause stipulating that The Deceitful Liar Potchettino cannot buy a Player from his previous Club I'm sure we all agree to that or that Southampton include it in there resignation papers we all hope so, there was always a suspicion that all the Players knew they would be leaving and at the final whistle against Man U there waving and blowing kisses was meaningless and was meant that this is the end of an era .
There is something very disturbing on the BBC News Sport Football Gossip today that Steven Gerrard is suppose to of said to Luis The Vampire not to join Arsenal because he is to good for them and not as good as Liverpool, to me that speaks volume's and the mind boggles that Brendan Rodgers perhaps spoke to Gerrard before he joined up with the England Squad to give a message to the Saints Players and mentioned Lovren and JRod that he wanted them in his Team for next season that could be perceived as back door poaching, Gerrard may of said the same about Southampton to the Saints Players what he said to the Vampire about Arsenal. I would not want to be in Rodgers shoes when he comes to St Marys next season, he'll need ear plugs and a suit of Armour and a posse of beefy balding Security men because there's always one crank, I sincerely hope not as violence is horrible but he can certainly expect very high volume decibels of verbal.
We all hope that the Board has finally decided enough is enough with the selling of Players and if Morgan and if it's true JRod want a transfer they can't have one, all us Supporters would be spitting blood if JRod left after being paid and Nursed with his serious injury to his knee at Southampton's expense, now that would really be taking the p

As said above, I am very suspicious of Spider-man's absence tonight as we have history on this - hope you are feeling better, Calum!

The Daily Mail reports Spuds are still after Spider and have offered, they say, £13 million!

Now the club has two real problems. First, they have got to stand by the statement that neither he nor Jay are for sale.

Then the other problem is the reported £27 million put on Spider. So we say he is not going, but then if he asked for a transfer and was allowed to go, what sort of price is acceptable.

A change of mind is unacceptable and, heck, £13 million in this current marketplace is also even MORE unacceptable.

Finally, surely he just CANNOT go to Poch's new club. That is just a no go for certain!

I think most saints fans still do love Adkins, but if he did come back (which he won't) and a 'top six' club wanted him he'd be off like a shot! And who could blame him, it's just the way things are in football these days.

I can't see how Ralph can possibly agree a sale after his last statement - in fact I think Ron probably stipulated he'd be off if it happened. I know mystery injuries do tend to precede a sale, but I think he just wants spider to get his head right before putting g him in the dressing room for a game. Hope that's not naive - nothing would surprise me.
