HOOK and Newnham Basics won a thriller to record back-to-back wins in the Southern League Division One, after winning at Fawley by one wicket with three balls to spare.

The visitors were set a target of 228 to win, and thanks to an superb century by Matt Love (103) they looked in good shape.

The opener shared a fifth wicket stand of 65 with Matt Buckingham (24), before being the sixth man out with the score on 187.

There was still some work to do, but Spencer Champ (18) and Gary Binns (5) moved the total to 198.

However, when Binns departed 16 runs later, it left to last pair Anik Divecha (12) and Kevin Poulter (14) needing 15 for victory to get them over the finish line.

Earlier, Tom Gates (78), a century hero against Basingstoke the previous week, and Paul Marks (81) shared a second wicket stand of 104, as Fawley looked set to post a really big score.

The Hook bowlers kept plugging away and Divecha (0-23) bowled a tidy 10 over spell and fellow spinner Poulter (4-56) put the brakes on the innings as they reached 227-9 from their 50 overs.

Hook are at home to Liphook and Ripsley on Saturday, before they travel to New Milton for their Southern Electric t20 Plate semi-final on Sunday.
