Teenage Saints midfielder Harrison Reed has signed a new four-year deal with the club.

Reed, 19, was due to become a free agent next summer, but is now under contract at St Mary's until 2018.

The youngster has been heavily involved in pre-season and has already made eight first-team appearances during his career, four of which were as a substitute in the Premier League.

He is hoping to play an even greater role in Ronald Koeman's side this term.

"I’m over the moon to sign for this club for the next four years,” Reed told the club's website.

“I want to be at this football club because it’s only going forward and is going to keep pushing on, so I’m already looking forward to the future.

“I’ve really enjoyed the three weeks that I’ve been with the new manager and his coaching staff, so I’m looking to continue working on my game now.

“The quality of the training that the manager has put on and the ambition that he’s showing played a big part in my decision.

“The manager wants us to perform just as well and even better than last year, so I can’t wait to play a part in that.”

Well Done .............Now this is news !!

And for all the scare mongers who said our lack of travel this pre season was a bad thing ..........

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal criticises his club's pre-season schedule, blaming "commercial activities" for the large amount of travel his players face.

"You have to travel distances, you have to fly a lot, you also have jetlag - that is not very positive for a good preparation," said the Dutchman.

Strange that , now off to Bournemouth with the proper fans !

Some positive news. Funny how there are so few comments.

I saw Harrison Reed play part of the League Cup match at Barnsley last season and he impresed (as did Omar Rowe). Yet another Saints academy player with the potential to go places ......

...... by that I mean 'go places with Saints', not 'go places such as straight into the Anfield home dresing room' of course.

stras good news indeed. very few comments and proper thumbs voting, until now watch this one get lots of thumbs down. the doomongers don't like good news stories because it doesn't fit in with the `end of the world` view of the club!
HR looks a good player with plenty of prospect, played well tonight when he came on, another quality product off the production line.

That's why I have no problem with Seed. He's all doom and gloom at the moment, but posts as he sees it - positive or negative The ones that get me down are the ones we never see on any good news thread or whenever things are going well. They've infested this evening's Lovren thread.

As for Reed, yes, once again he impressed. You casn see he has something extra. I was impressed with Isgrove, too, who looked far more reassurd than the one time (also at Barnsley) that I saw him.

It's all positive on the academy front, at least.

Same as with seed, you just know that when the league starts and we start banging the goals in and winning matches seed will be back to talking about gassing and bricks! I will try to debate with him and point out where I think hes wrong, as he does us, but at least you can do that with seed! Most of the idiots who have suddenly turned up wouldn't know one end of SMS from another and just throw abuse around when asked to clarify there dumb points. Problem is though that one of them starts a rumour and within a day its become a fact that the board have lied about! I tend to just ignore them now though. Ive often thought that if we all disappeared to the Facebook forum for a week, we know they cant join that, when we returned most would have given up and gone away. Might be worth a try!

Sad but close to truth I fear. It's still good news in a way though - it helps keep our club afloat and we've been doing it pretty successfully for as long as I can remember. We had one glittering little moment where we were on the launch pad for greater things and our manager, captain and who knows who else was involved in the hand grenade incident which had everybody running away - and between them they blew it. Greed and power did it of that we can be sure. Not meaningless really Barnet though I do sometimes feel that way myself - it means we will still have a football team to watch and complain about years into the future. As Saints fans we sometimes have to be grateful for the small things eh? It's going to be a great season no matter what happens.

That`s simply not true. By getting our youngsters to sign long term deals it means that if they subsequently become good enough to play for a team that can offer them CL football we then get top dollar when they move , which in my opinion is exactly what we have done recently when we sold Shaw and Lallana. The key then is for the club to re-invest that money well on replacements who themselves will hopefully then go on to become our new hero`s. Alternatively if the player is decent but not quite up to CL level he will stay with Saints and we will get to see him play for more than just a couple of season`s. Surely this is far better than us not producing any quality players in the first place, even though it is not what we would prefer, i.e. that our players only move when we deem them surplus to requirements. Unfortunately that is simply unrealistic, whether you and I like it or not.

Only because you choose to see it that way red. We have no evidence that KL has taken the money to line her pockets. Though we have to realize it is all her money both income and expenditure it's all her money and she can do with it as she sees fit just as you and I would if we owned Saints. Be honest with yourself if you owned Saints would you be driving and Astra or an Aston? I for one would have an Aston plus a couple of other toys. Because it would be my money and I'd do exactly what I wanted with it. As for improving big clubs squads unfortunately that probably is the case. It's always been that way though only this season it's magnified because we've had a mass exodus for the same reasons Katharina owns the club - to make more money. It's what makes the world go round.
If the two latest transfers go ahead we will have made approx 100m in total (though not probably all of it upfront) She has agreed to approx 20 mill of that to be spent on new players and offering new contracts to current players. We are apparently either building or partnering an academy in the USA - good long term investment - we have no idea how much will cost and maybe never will know. What we can be sure of is that Rambo still have a lot of dosh in the coffers should the right players become avail at a price we can afford. Week by week the squad will be added to though I doubt we will ever again be on the edge of the big time like we were last season.

Regardless of the contradiction of your post - saved from relegation followed by we're down already! Your statement is probably accurate in a way you did not intend it to be.
I think you can bank your next months wage that all of our academy has had the beadie eye run over them by most of the PL clubs already. Now this lad has been promoted so to speak I can guarantee they will be back to check him again and again and again. At some point in the future if they want him they will just repeat the exercise they at the end of the season and which is still continuing today and offer him more than we can and he will probably take the bait and he and his agent will start to agitate for a move. I don't like it any more than you but that seems to be the inevitable way of things nowadays.
