  • "Another embarrassment for Les. Face it, the new team has delivered us -1 chairman, -1 manager, -1 captain, -1 goal scorer and now -1 CB. Soon to be -1 defensive midfielder. Not sure Victor is that happy with developments either. Problem with having no proper football people at the helm is they can't deliver any proper signings. The only reason we got the 2 guys in is RK's connections, and unfortunately they are totally unproven. Our board is an embarrassment and completely inconsistent with what it says / how it acts. Our hand is weakened with every quality player sold. I could understand if we were bringing in quality replacements. The problem is, the guys at the top don't know how to create a winning mentality in football and positive momentum - they have been idle for way too long this summer. What's wrong with telling the vultures, "sorry, no time to discuss Lovren right now, trying to sign , come back before the window closes. You'll find him repeating the bleep test over there with the resies." No spine, no guile, no winning mentality. I'm ashamed of the way our club has performed this summer, it's a total embarrassment. Bad news after bad news with nice old Les doing nothing to stem the flow. He has delivered nothing except to dismantle a successful squad. The youngsters are good but it's unfair to rely on them. I wonder if Les is gradually dismantling the scouting network we have built up in the background as well?"

Liverpool have agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £20m for Saints defender Dejan Lovren.

The Croatian centre half has long been angling for a move to Anfield, after the Premier League runner-ups' interest in him was revealed.

At one point, he even threatened to not return to Staplewood following the World Cup in a bid to force through the move to Liverpool.

Manger Ronald Koeman said last week that he was prepared to let Lovren go if the Reds met Saints' asking price, as he did not want players at Southampton who did not want to be there.

He will be the third Southampton player to swap the South Coast for the North West this summer, following in the footsteps of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.

In total, Liverpool have paid Saints around £49m for the three players, which is half of the total outlay Brendan Rodgers has put on seven new signings.

Lovren joined Saints from French side Lyon for a fee of £8.5m last summer.

It is understood he will undergo a medical tomorrow before finalising the move.
