HOOK and Newnham Basics will look to build on their eight-wicket victory over Hambledon when they travel to Fawley on Saturday.

Having dismissed Hambledon for 231 last week, Hook completed an easy win thanks to an opening stand of 162 between Ben Thane (113) and Jordan Hobday (82).

Delighted Hook skipper Matt Love said: “It was a great win and we played a complete game of cricket, which was nice to see.

“We will now look to take this form into our next game against Fawley.”

Last weekend, Fawley took the scalp of promotion-chasing Basingstoke and North Hants as they fight to avoid relegation.

Hook recorded the double over their south Hampshire rivals last year, but this is the first meeting between these sides this season as Fawley’s trip to Hook was washed-out earlier in the campaign.

Opener Thane will miss the game, while fellow opener Jordan Hobday will continue as wicket-keeper for broken thumb victim Josh Buckingham.

Love added: “It has been a frustrating season for us, but we now want to make sure we can finish as high as possible.”
