A MASTERFUL ton from Ben Thane made sure Hook and Newnham Basics dished out revenge on visiting Hambledon on Saturday in the Southern League Division One.

Thane (113) shared an opening stand worth 162 with Jordan Hobday (82), as the home side cruised to an eight wicket win with five overs to spare, as they reached 233-2.

Thane innings of 137 balls included 13 fours and one six, with Hobday scoring exactly the same amount of boundaries in his knock as the home side were easy winners.

Earlier on in the day, Hambledon won the toss and decided to bat and looked set for a big score as they reached 84-0, thanks to openers Joe Collings-Wells (65) and Dominic Humphrey (25).

The home bowlers then hit back and only Zanzima Pongolo (45) made it past 25 in the rest of the team, as they were all out for 231.

The wickets were spread around with Spencer Champ, Shane Brewer and Kieran Thomson, who removed both openers, getting two each.

This week, Hook travel to Fawley on Saturday for a league game.
