JUSTIN Rose recorded his lowest round of The Open Championship so far, but is out of contention for the title going into tomorrow's final 18 holes.

The north Hampshire golfer shot a three-under-par round of 69 at Royal Liverpool earlier today, a score that moved him up to a share of 12th place on -5.

However, the chances of the 33-year-old making it three wins in a row are very slim as he is 11 shots behind runaway leader Rory McIlroy.

Rose got off to a fine start at Royal Liverpool today, making birdies at holes three and five, only to bogey the sixth. Further birdies on the last two holes resulted in a round of 69, moving him up the leaderboard.

The world number three will hope to climb into the top 10 tomorrow and will play his final round alongside Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell. The pair get under way at 1.40pm.
