HOOK and Newnham Basics cruised into the final four of the Southern Electric t20 Plate competition after a 10-wicket win over visiting Sparsholt.

Shane Brewer (5-14) had a great afternoon with the ball, as he finished off with a hat-trick.

Jordan Hobday (54) and Ben Thane (34) knocked off the winning runs in just six overs.

They will meet New Milton, Waterlooville or Totton and Eling in the semi-finals, with the draw to be made later this week.

Hook captain Matt Love said: “It was our first complete home game of the season and we want to take this performance forward into this weekend’s game against Hambledon.

“We know a lot about Hambledon and would back ourselves to win at home.”

It is a revenge mission for Hook as their Southern League Division One mid-table rivals beat them by six wickets back in May.

Last weekend, Hook narrowly lost at second-placed Sarisbury Athletic.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. Kieran Thomson (48), Matt Buckingham (38), Matt Love (35) and Richard Willcock (30) all helped Hook to 206-9.

This proved not to be enough, as the home side reached 210-8 with six balls to spare, with Spencer Champ (4-45) the stand-out bowler for the visitors.

Love said: “Sarisbury are the best all-round team we have played this season and we ran them very close.

“It was great to have Richie Willcock back in the line-up and we are unchanged for this week.”
