Tadic set for first Saints run out

Dusan Tadic could make his first appearance in a Saints shirt tonight, as new manager Ronald Koeman leads the club into their opening pre-season match.

The £11m playmaker, who signed from FC Twente this summer, is part of the 27-man squad that has been taken on this week’s trip to Belgium and the Netherlands.

Saints will play two games during their tour, beginning with this evening’s encounter against Dutch amateur side EHC Hoensbroek (kick-off 6pm UK time).

Plenty of eyes will be trained on Serbian ace Tadic, who has been brought to St Mary’s as a direct replacement for Adam Lallana, following his move to Liverpool.

The 25-year-old has arrived with an exciting reputation, having been one of the shining lights of the Dutch top-flight over the past few seasons.

He won’t be the only Saints player who fans making the trip to the SportPark de Dem will be interested to watch, though.

Liverpool target Dejan Lovren has joined the pre-season trip, despite having said he feels as though his head is already at Anfield and having considered staying away in a bid to force through a transfer.

The centre-half still wants his move to the Reds, but opted to make the journey this week after talks with Koeman, who had made it clear in no uncertain terms that he had to return.

Lovren may not feature tonight, having only just begun his pre-season work because of his involvement in the World Cup.

However, Saints fans will be keen to see the reaction and performance of the Croatian international if he does get some time on the pitch.

The club’s latest signing, £8m striker Graziano Pelle, is another one supporters will be looking forward to seeing.

The Italian completed his move from Feyenoord on Saturday evening, but was not joining up with the squad for the start of the trip.

He was due to have arrived in time for this evening’s match, although fans may be more likely to get a glimpse of him when Saints play their second game, against Belgian third division outfit KSK Hasselt, on Thursday (kick-off 6pm UK time).

The team are basing themselves in Belgium this week, training just outside of Genk.

Some of the first-team squad remain absent, with Victor Wanyama on international duty for Kenya, while Morgan Schneiderlin has additional time off, because of his involvement with France in the World Cup.

Jay Rodriguez has travelled, but will not feature as he continues to recover from his cruciate ligament injury. Dani Osvaldo is not part of the trip.

Saints squad: Artur Boruc, Kelvin Davis, Paulo Gazzaniga, Calum Chambers, Nathaniel Clyne, Jose Fonte, Jos Hooiveld, Dejan Lovren, Jason McCarthy, Jack Stephens, Matt Targett, Jordan Turnbull, Maya Yoshida, Jack Cork, Steven Davis, Jake Flannigan, Lloyd Isgrove, Sam McQueen, Harrison Reed, Jake Sinclair, Dusan Tadic, James Ward-Prowse, Sam Gallagher, Emmanuel Mayuka, Graziano Pelle, Jay Rodriguez, Billy Sharp.

God I love our squad! And god I love our youth academy!!

Is there any other team where half their squad are teenagers? I think us Saints fans take it for granted now and ignore just how insanely exciting that is!! We will never run out of the kind of talent that we have let go in recent years! One day we will reach a level that will allow us to keep them!

Very very excited to see how everyone gets on tonight! COYR!!

So agree, but i think that time is coming! We are not losing youngsters until they are full internationals now! I think some people calling for replacements have forgotten our academy!

Germany's success utilising the majority of their U21 squad from 4 years ago another damning indictment of the "money buys success" approach of the majority of PL teams, and the total lack of team-ethic developed in the England team set-up ("Well done Mr Hodgson, good job. Carry on for another 2 years...). If nothing else the WC has made it plain - it is TEAMS that succeed, not collections of over-hyped (and over-paid) individuals.

It appears Saints alone in the PL are really prepared to develop and PLAY their youngsters, who can now see that there is a clear and open path into the first team and beyond.

Koeman appears to be the ideal man to continue this approach, and even if we "only" manage 12th place or so this year that will still be a massive success given all that has happened over the past couple of months, as well as sending out another message from the South coast that there is another way to achieving success other than robbing other clubs.

Therefore in spite of all the upheaval and disappointments of recent weeks I'd rather be supporting Saints than the soulless identities that that the so-called big clubs have become. Roll on the new season!

Gaston, like Morgan, still has about another week if leave left. As both of their countries went to the quarter finals, their 3 weeks leave started after that. They'll both return towards the end of this month.

Lets hope Tadic at least as good as Adam if not better, but be patient while he gets used to the Premiership.
The same goes for Pelle for Ricky, but we must score more goals next season so another 20+ prem goals a season is urgently required.

A LB and Winger, both who can cross well for Pelle's head are also needed.

These followed by a top GK and CB.

Thats five players still to bring in.

I am not sure any of the next crop of young players are quite ready yet but they will give competition for places and hopefully break through the following year.

Therefore we have the cash & RonKo has said we will bring in better players that those who have left.

There is your task Les Reed you need to go and get RonKo's targets asap
RonKo will attract them and we CAN afford them, even if we get a season long loan player, like Lukaku ?

So expect 2 or 3 by end of next week and the other 2 or 3 before the window closes. Sorry Les no holiday for you at the moment !!

I've noticed a few people mention a loan move for Lukaku. I'd also welcome such a move, however, he is reportedly angling for a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge to join a team in a European Competition. If that's true, it's likely that he'll leave the Prem entirely, rather than make another loan move.

Gaston to return next Sunday as Uruguay got knocked out in the round of 16. Spider to return the following Sunday as France got knocked out in the quarters.
All players given 3 weeks off after their involvement in the world cup ended. So our England pair would have come back on Sunday jwith Dejan. However they were sold to lesser teams as punishment for being so poor. ;0)

Not a great fan of loaning other PL clubs players as all you're doing is improving their squad with the efforts of your own coaches so that player can come back and bite you in the bum next season. Players from foreign clubs is a litle different but with our youth set up we can put a youngster in to gain experience and benefit at the end of that period whether that youngster is good enough to step up or should be sold on.

However we need to get the new players in asap to get them settled in and working to RonKo's systems.

Good to get Tadic & Pelle bedded into the team. However we need to get the new players in asap to get them settled in and working to RonKo's systems. The squad is no better than what finished last season at the moment. A new first choice GK, CB, LB and Striker plus a winger who are all better than what we have got are still needed asap to take us up a level. COYS NC Fan4Life
