Saints will soon make decisions over new contracts for key players such as José Fonte and Jack Cork, who are entering the final year of their current deals.

Both players are due to become free agents next summer and, as yet, have not had their long-term future resolved.

New Saints boss Ronald Koeman said it is too early in his reign to speak about his plans for the pair, but he said that new deals must, obviously, be sorted out for any important players entering the final 12 months of their contract.

“It’s a little bit too fast to have that kind of opinion. I need more time,” said Koeman, when asked if the club were offering new deals to Fonte and Cork.

“But they are important players and, always, if they will come in the last season of a contract, you have to do something at the club, and we will talk about that and we will make decisions about that.

“But it’s a little bit too early now.”

Artur Boruc, Maya Yoshida, Jos Hooiveld and Billy Sharp are other first-team players whose contracts are set to expire next summer.
