BASINGSTOKE Town’s pre-season campaign will continue with a home game against League One outfit Yeovil Town on Saturday.

The Camrose club played their first friendly on Tuesday, drawing 2-2 away at Wessex League outfit Winchester City.

Saturday’s match (kick-off 3pm) will be a totally different test for Town, coming up against a side who spent last season in the Championship, but it’s a game Basingstoke manager Jason Bristow is looking forward to.

“Yeovil will be a completely different test, but it’s a game that should improve us,” he said.

“We are expecting Yeovil to bring a very strong side so it will be physically demanding and a real test of fitness. It will be a good test and we will relish it.”

On Tuesday, goals from Liam Enver-Marum and triallist Chris Flood had Town two goals ahead shortly after half-time. They had chances to increase their lead but Winchester finished with a flourish, Reece Rusher and Warren Bentley grabbing late goals to earn Winchester a draw.

“It was our first pre-season game and there’s lots to build on, but there were loads of positives,” Bristow said. “We controlled the game for long periods and there were some good, fast-paced attacks.”

A total of nine triallists played some part in Tuesday’s game, with Hartley Wintney star Sam Argent and former Swindon forward Lloyd Macklin putting in impressive performances.

Bristow will welcome back Tom Bird, who missed the trip to Winchester due to work commitments, for Saturday’s game.

There will also be a new man between the posts, with Reading youngster Stuart Moore being given permission to play in the game. The 19-year-old is the younger brother of another goalkeeper, former Town loanee Simon Moore, and Bristow is hoping to sign him on a season-long loan.

Isle of Wight-born Moore began his career at local club Brading before spending two years with Portsmouth. He joined Reading in 2011, enjoying loan spells at Hungerford Town, Gloucester City and Bath City last season.

The Town boss also revealed that he remains in talks with other players not currently on trial at the club.
