A SIX-OVER-PAR total of 150 was enough to give Marc Thomas victory in the Weybrook Park Club Championship.

Thomas was the joint leader after the first round at the Basingstoke club, shooting 74 (+2) to head the leaderboard alongside Gareth Robertson.

However, scoring was more difficult in the afternoon and while Robertson fell away, eventually finishing fifth, Thomas played some solid golf to card a second round of 76 (+4) to win by three shots.

Mark Burgess was one of very few players to improve their first-round score in the afternoon, shooting 74 (+2) to equal the best score of the day and move into second place, having carded a seven-over-par total of 79 in the first round.

He beat Oliver Coleman, who carded rounds of 75 (+3) and 78 (+6) on countback, while Scott Coomber (75 and 79) was a shot back in fourth, with Robertson a further stroke behind in fifth.

The handicap title was claimed by Charlie Kelly, who carded a 10-under-par total of 134 playing off 11. Tom Wildsmith was four shots back in second, playing off a handicap of 20, while 23-handicapper Richard Fitzpatrick was third, a further two strokes behind.

Lance Forster recorded a two-over-par total of 142 to win the Basingstoke Golf Club Championship by a single shot.

Forster’s 36-hole score saw him beat James Wright into second place. Peter Wright was a further eight shots back in third.
