TADLEY Runners’ annual 10k and 3k fun races again had a good turnout for their 20th running.

In perfect conditions 275 runners signed up for the race and 250 made it to the 10k finish line.

The men’s event was won by Hillingdon AC’s Gareth Watkins in a time of 34 minutes. Joylon Reburn (36.18) was second with Basingstoke and Mid Hants’ Mat Shaylor (36.33) third.

The ladies’ race was won by unattached runner Laura Woodley (37.35), who was also fifth overall.

Basingstoke’s Angela Goodwin (40.55) was the second lady home, ahead of Woking’s Joanna Payne (41.15).

Shaylor and Goodwin, along with the men’s vets 50 race winner Russell Burton (37.37), helped Basingstoke to the team victory.

Neville Welsh Smyth (38.58) enjoyed success in the men’s vets 40 category and White Horse Harriers’ Tim Hughes retained his vets 60 title.

In the ladies’ vet races, Claire Quinn (43.38) won the vets 35 title, Newbury AC’s Sue van Huyssteen (44.50) finished first in the vet 45 category and Nicola Dale (51.58) took the vet 55 crown.

George Rimmer (12.31) was the first boy home in the 3k fun run and Anna-Maria Barnes (16.19) took the girls’ crown.

Tadley Runners’ next event is a 10-mile road race on October 19, which starts at 10am from the Hurst Community College.
