BLUEWAVE Korean Martial Arts continued their 100 per cent pass rate at the Taekwondo Chungdokwan GB Black Belt grading in London.

Five members – Rachel Harman, Callum Walker, Bradley Welsman, Alex Stock and Amy Stock – of Bluewave club, which is based at Priestley Road, attended the grading.

For each of them this was the final part of many months of intense preparation both within the club and at national training events.

They all showed quality performances across all the disciplines of taekwondo something that Bluewave prides itself in.

They underwent a rigorous test of all aspects of taekwondo covering the traditional martial arts aspects, self defence and the Olympic style of sparring under the watchful eyes of the Taekwondo Chungdokwan GB Dan Grading Panel which comprised grandmaster Lindsay Lawrence, grandmaster Mark Biddlecombe, Master Michael King and master Gerry Reilly.

The club was delighted with the achievements of their students, as this was a true reflection of their hard work and preparation of the members and their instructors, and showed that their standard was up with the best in the country.

Harman has become a first dan, while Walker, Welsman, along with Alex and Amy Stock, all moved up to second dan.

Three members of Bluewave – Sian Reilly, Amy Stock and Welsman – successfully achieved their full British Taekwondo Class Three Corner Judges qualification.

Reilly and Stock attended the Class Three Corner Judges course last year, while Bradley Welsman successfully passed the theoretical element of the course.

At the NTC competition in Nottingham earlier this year Reilly and Stock completed the practical element of the course spending most of the day ringside as a corner judge, while Welsman completed his practical element at the Taekwondo Chungdokwan Championships.

An application on behalf of these students was made for a coaching bursary from Basingstoke Sports Council, and the trio were delighted to be presented with a cheques to the value of 50 per cent of the costs.

Bluewave is delighted that the Local Sports Council is able to support these students and to recognise their achievement and commitment as well as helping them at the start of the pathway for their development as coaches for the future.
