Saints set to head abroad to face Dutch amateur sides as part of pre-season

Basingstoke Gazette: Ronald Koeman Ronald Koeman

Saints are set to head abroad to face two Dutch amateur sides as part of their pre-season preparations.

Ronald Koeman will take his squad away from English shores as he pieces things together ready for the new Premier League campaign.

Dates for the friendlies and the exact base for the Saints squad have yet to be confirmed, but it is understood that Koeman ideally wants to go and play the games before the English based fixtures already announced by the club against Swindon, Bournemouth and Brighton.

These will be vital days for the new boss in the wake of a tricky summer at St Mary’s.

With star names having departed, new faces set to have arrived and Koeman trying to put his own stamp on things, it will provide the perfect opportunity to bond together the group and get some fitness in the legs of the players.

It is also a chance for the squad to learn what is expected of them from the new management team, and for the coaching staff themselves to gel after they were pieced together as pre-season began.

The opposition will only be low key as a first reintroduction to action for the players.

It is unlikely anybody will play much more than 45 minutes in either game but it will help enable the team to figure for longer in the friendlies in this country when the serious business starts to loom large.

RK doing it his way.. And makes a lot of sense ..be even better if he can persuade Morgan to take the captaincy, sign Vaarl and move either Clyne or Chambers into a wing half role so they can both play.

Have to say the kit was a well kept secret, no leaks, no clues so hope there are a few more surprises before the big kick off.

COYR ....forget SRL and Adam..they are history..

As NC has gone, I guess we will have the rest of the Summer with posters posting selective insults alternatively between Ralph K and Les Reed, what is it with our posters that always feel the need to slag people off on here, I just don't understand it at all. It is not as if they can or will defend themselves.

The Official Saints site has been down for quite a while, who is going to tell us we haven't paid the domain bill and have been kicked out? The message is that it is down for maintenance, I guess it's a revamp, getting rid of the dross that is no longer relevant, the mobile link and the shop link are still available.

Yes, I understand that and in turn I have the right to disagree, I just don't think it fair that snide comments are made about people who cannot defend themselves, I am not saying they should be forbidden, as long as they are kept within the rules of the site they are OK. I also cannot see how these remarks in any way, can improve the situation, so apart from attention seeking they are mostly pointless, but that is just me, I don't speak on anyone elses behalf just my opinion.

How is my comment an insult? My comment is that this reaffirms that RK is now, here he is in charge, he will buy the players that he wants and he will play pre season games where he wants!
.
I see this as a very positive move, managers are not there to be the best friends of the players and board, like Mopo they are there to get the job done and I think RK will do just that no matter how many players choose to jump ship, as he has extensive contacts, I can't see him buying an Osvaldo !

Good to get the players away for a week or two but really need all the 8 new players that are needed so they can get to know each other.

It does not look as though Morgan, Lovren & Osvaldo will be with them.
So these need top be replaced urgently with at least equal quality plus the extra 3 or 4 that we all know we need to add to last seasons squad before any departures.

We must not buy mediocre players that will be a waste of money as we have young academy players for these support roles.

If Les does not move quickly we will loose out on Steven Caulker. At £9m for an English CB & future captain is a bargain. We can offer Cardiff Hoover & Jose if needs be to get him, but need to do this urgently.
Then buy one or two of the Dutch CB's and we still have Maya as back up.
A LB and GK and the defence will be complete.

With Tadic in for Adam and Pelle in for Ricky we just need one more striker and a pacy good crossing winger, plus a holding MF if Morgan goes.

Get them in early and take them away to let RonKo knit them into a team asap as we will need to 'hit the ground running' with the relatively easy first 12 fixtures otherwise if we don't it could be a difficult season.

COYS RonKo knows who he wants so Les go and do the deals asap, by the way Les, if you had a holiday booked you will have to cancel it, you are going to be too busy.

Sorry didn't mean to use your comment as a whipping boy, but to think that RonKo and Les are already at loggerheads is probably creating an incorrect picture, if you see what I mean, we need these guys to work hand in glove, and yes RonKo needs to assert what he needs, Les and Ralph and co. need to ensure he gets what he wants, Give them a chance, it cannot be rushed.

Couldn't agree more I can't stand all the anti KL and hate the board rubbish that some fans spout. I don't see what they have done wrong, they have got dollar money for the players that have gone, and promised the funds to the manager, what more could fans want?

Cheers for the Jack Stephens info the other day. X

The site is back up, but this is rather alarming: according to the "players" section at the bottom RH, we only have five players: Davis, Clyne, Lovren, Wanyama and Osvaldo.

I agree with you, I've not once slagged the Board off because it's working every day to improve everything for the Club as Les Reed has repeated, the Board are not sitting on Beaches or by a Swimming Pool in the Bahamas soaking up the sun every day, yes they could be on holiday as they are entitled but they have jobs and work as much as any human being because Southampton FC is a business.
We all know what's happened with the Players who have gone and IMO the Board did not want the collapse of this pyramid of achievement but the Players wanted to leave, we cannot be a Fly on the wall but I bet Les Reed did not say Go then if you think the Club are not good enough and we are not ambitious you can f off, he would of said what anyone with loyalty passion and respect for the Club would say probably, We don't want you to leave we have such a great ambitious project going here and you have helped to achieve it so far and the Board the Supporters do not want it to stop and we want you to stay etc, IMO they didn't want to play for another Manager and money was the motivator and as for sentiment and loyalty to the Club it didn't exist, what has shocked us all is to why so many Players of the same Team wanted to leave after the end of the season, a mass exodus from one Team of Southampton has never been known especially as it was the best finish in the Premiership since it was formed, it's not as if the Club had been relegated that would of been understood that Players didn't want to play in the lower League. I and thousand like me couldn't believe what was happening, it was unfolding daily and to me it was torture, however it's history and everyone moves on and the other issue of signing Players and those that have been targeted, they look good and we hope they can do an excellent job for the Club, once again there's a lot of planning to bring them to the Club, I'm sure they don't just talk to the Player he agrees to join signs a paper the Southampton Rep returns to the Club and says that's job done he'll be here tomorrow, there must many things to check, Passport, work Permit that must take time, finding a house suitable there must be endless duties before the Player finally holds up the Shirt so I fully respect the Board of the Club I love and have the patience to see what happens next, I'm very excited and hope I can watch all home games for the first time and hopefully some away games because my hip was replaced 2 weeks ago and 'll be able to walk from Weston where I park to St Marys. Great post, but I think we are banging our heads against the wall here. Some don't want to believe. Glad the hip op was a success.

SAINTS TILL I DIE!! says...

Here's a fun fact! Did you know that a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic (who at the time was playing for Malmo) was discovered by RonKo whilst being manager of Ajax. He made his name under Koeman until he left for Juve. Imagine our very own Zlatan being discovered.. i'm salivating at the thought!

Now that would be a signing to make the so called top teams sit back and watch! However I would be just pleased to see the new players coming in as it's only 6 weeks before the new season starts. Leave this too late and we could be struggling to put ot a first team that is capable of leaving Diverpool with something to regret. I see from the Sunday papers that Judas at Spurs wants Lovren. I hope Saints tell them F off.

100% - I nominate NCFan4Life take care of transfers!
(With RK having the final say of course ;-) )

Very profound, isn't it?
No longer = murder then?

The fact that some have 'BEAN' or are still involved in the World Cup is not lost to most of us, who saw our 'PASTA' key players being 'negotiated' away whilst they should have been concentrating on said Cup.

Just be glad that we got RK and not the manager of Japan, Macaroni, whose first signing would be a malfunctioning Honda.
