BASINGSTOKE GC members Andy Palmer and Oscar O’Herlihy helped Hampshire Seniors to a 6-4 victory over Sussex in their first South East League match of the season.
The competition took place at Weybrook Park and both Basingstoke golfers were involved in tight matches.
Palmer looked set for an easy victory after enjoying a five-hole lead with five holes to play, but Sussex’s Kevin Ruffle fought back brilliantly to claim a half.
O’Herlihy was four down with four to play against David Alderson, but then won three holes in a row to take the match to the final green before losing by a single hole.
