Southampton make new offer for Graziano Pelle

Basingstoke Gazette: Graziano Pelle Graziano Pelle

Saints remain hopeful of agreeing a fee with Feyenoord for striker Graziano Pelle, after increasing their offer for the player.

As revealed by the Daily Echo on Monday, the club are in negotiations for the Italian forward, as well as for FC Twente midfielder Dusan Tadic.

Saints are understood to have initially tested the waters with an offer of just over £3m for Pelle, who new manager Ronald Koeman wants to sign from his previous club.

That was rebuffed, as it fell well short of the Dutch side’s valuation.

Earlier this week, Saints went back in with a more serious bid, of about £6.4m (€8m), which is far closer to being an acceptable sum.

An agreement has still not been reached between the clubs, but it is believed they are not too far away from a suitable settlement now.

A deal for Tadic looks likely, with Saints believed to be keen to wrap up the transfer in the coming days, although there is also interest in the player from Schalke and Sevilla.

The Serbian playmaker, who was still training with Twente yesterday, is seen as the ideal replacement for Adam Lallana, who completed his move to Liverpool earlier this week.

Tadic, 25, was the fourth top scorer in last season’s Eredivisie, while he also contributed the most assists of any player in the Netherlands’ top division.

Pelle has been the standout striker in the same league for the past two seasons.

The 6ft 4in forward, who turns 29 within the next two weeks, has netted 50 goals in 57 appearances for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie since the start of the 2012/13 season.

It shouldn't matter though, if a player is valued at £5m we should still be able to get him for that price if we're firm.

Everyone will stick a few million on the top of their players.that is what les has caused by buckling to players demands.i cannot understand why the deals had to be done so early in the transfer window.
Why couldn't les grant their requests but ask for no press until their replacements were signed.
We are now in a weak bargaining position and other clubs will squeeze us.i think saint should draw a line in the sand with lovren.do not sell him and if he doesn't like it we should take the hit and put him in the u21s for a while.
These players have shown no respect and we are all waiting for saints to fight back.
Les should not sell lovren, especially before a replacement is brought in.

That's the exact opposite of what we said over the selling of Shaw and Lallana. If the selling club aren't desperate to sell then they will hold out for their price.

I'm not totally convinced you are aware of how negotiations work.

A first offer of more than what the player is worth is going to make the selling club think they can get even more from us. It is unlikely they will turn around and say "No, no that's too much offer us less."

An offer of way below the player's value, as in our initial offer, is likely to be rejected out of hand and regarded by the selling club as displaying a lack of respect to them and to the player.
Do you remember when Terry Vegetables offered £400k for Razor Ruddock when we valued him at £2m? It went to tribunal and Ruddock went for £750k. Spurs then valued him 12 months later at £4m when he went to Liverpool.

That was Spurs demonstrating a lack of respect to us, and is similar to us making a disrespectful offer to Feyenoord.

Hope that helps.

Liverpool have just bid an undisclosed sum for Southampton's new LED floodlight system.
Liverpool are said to be doing this as a sympathetic gesture so that when the last person leaves, there will be no lights to actually turn off.

Les reed stated that there has been no offer for the LED lights, but if there was he would have to consider the offer, even though they are definitely not for sale.

LED lighting system was unavailable for comment, but a source said the opportunity to light up a Wednesday night champions league game would be difficult to refuse for LED.

Yeah, totally agree, should have offered £12m and worked backwards and looked even more stupid!

I hope most of the Lalla haters are simply keyboard cowboys and he gets a good reception on return. He showed plenty of loyalty over the years, when was covetted by Spurs and others and we where in lower divisions. I for one will applaud Adam if not the others.

Excited by Koeman, but my choice would have been to get NA back. I reckon he would have welcomed it, didn't leave under a cloud and his only gripes would have been with NC. We progressed under Poch, but first season record was no better than for NA's games. All ifs, buts, maybes, but will never know what progress would have been made if NA stayed (had been steady up to then, no reason to think couldn't have continued). It seems like would have been our only chance of keeping this squad together.

Agreed which maybe was Nicola's plan in case we didn't qualify for the Champions League he promised them, then at least we would get top value for them.

However something is going on behind the scenes, why is it that all our best players want to leave this summer ? We could do with an answer to this but unlikely to get one from anywhere. It seems that it is a case of one out - all out ! but not sure if Nicola, MoPo or maybe both set the players off on this.

It could be that the new board failed to see this and did too little to stop it or 'nip it in the bud'. If Lovern & Morgan (plus possibly others) also go then I don't ever remember any team loosing most of its best players after having a good season.

With the players on long contracts why are the board selling them before they have met the new manager AND before any new players arrive. Potential players will be concerned about joining a club selling 5 or 6 of its best players and their clubs will want more for them knowing that Saints have plenty of money and desperate for players.

I think the new board have failed to be proactive and not tough enough so far with regards to the players. So now they have made good managerial appointments they really need to make an impact with top quality new signings.

It seems Lovern, like Osvaldo is going to force the issue, but it is now imperative to stop the departures there. We must keep Morgan & make him captain and sign the 4 replacements plus at least 2 of the four additions asap in order to find a settled team.

We had been fortunate with the fixtures so need to hit the ground running, if not then we will be in a relegation fight trying to settle a new team. Not pushing on as the board said we would be !!

Saints should be taking the view that if any players are to be sold they are not to be sold to a Premier League team and only abroad! We do not want to be strengthening our competition whilst weakening ourselves. It is hard enough in this division as it is...to break into the top half regularly takes a lot of consistency from teams and I am concerned that we will be a yo-yo side next year with some great wins but more defeats.

It occurs to me, we are pretty good at getting rid of players but always seems to take an age to get them in. If I remember correctly, did it not take weeks to get Ramirez to sign. Then not brilliant, either.

Get a move on, the weeks are ticking by and we should try and get a new team spirit going.

Yeah, totally agree, should have offered £12m and worked backwards and looked even more stupid!

Be gentle with him Osprey.

On a very very bright note - Rambo has announced through radio Solent that we do not need to spend the Shaw money on a LB as Targett is capable of stepping up - which also means he probably has another youngster he likes or he's relying on Clyne to cover.

That's 5-10 mill squids saved then.

The Italy international is expected to undergo a medical at the San Siro in the coming days and return to Serie A, having initially signed for the Saints from Roma at the beginning of last season.

Osvaldo, who scored three goals in 13 appearances for Southampton last term, failed to report back to the club for pre-season training this week and has not featured in the first-team since being suspended for having a training ground fight with team-mate Jose Fonte.

The 28-year-old joined Juventus on loan in January but failed to impress for the Serie A champions, as the club decided not to make the deal permanent.

If you don't start getting players in you won't be able to field a full team next season. Everybody is signing players, your board are so slow all the good ones will be gone by the time you get around to it.

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder seals Anfield switch

Liverpool FC have confirmed the £10million signing of midfielder Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen.
The Reds met the release clause in the 20-year-old’s contract last month and now the transfer has been completed.
Can said: “I am proud to be a part of the family and I am looking forward to playing here. I will give it my best.
“LFC is a great club and the fans are amongst the best in the world. I am looking forward to the first game and can’t wait to step on the pitch for the first time at Anfield.”
Can is the Reds’ third signing of the summer following the capture of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana from Southampton. He scored three goals in 29 league appearances for Leverkusen last season.
You have so many good players, how do plan to keep them all happy when they realise the benches are getting harder and harder?

Just watched the clip, he looks pretty good. Great with ball at his feet on the run, very fast and delivering some decent crosses. Not bad at scoring and free kicks too! Wonder how much?
