JUSTIN Rose is three shots behind American Patrick Reed going into the final round at the Quicken Loans National at Congressional in Maryland this evening.

The north Hampshire golfer posted a round of 71 (par) on day three of the competition, but it kept him in touch with the leader.

The 2013 US Open champion had hoped to build on his excellent second day in Maryland, which saw him fire in five birdies in the opening nine holes on his way to a 65 (-6).

This put him right back in contention after an awful opening round of 74 (+3), which included four bogeys in the first nine holes.

At this point it looked like Rose would miss the cut, which is what happened to Tiger Woods on his comeback from injury as he ended on +7 for his first two rounds.
