HARTLEY Wintney CC captain Jamie Teale is hoping that Ari Karvelas can be a match-winner for his side again this week.

The South African took a hat-trick as Hartley Wintney recorded a seven-wicket victory over visiting Havant II in Southern League Division Two last weekend.

The right-arm seamer bowled Josh McCoy, before having Graham Burns caught by wicket-keeper Simon Carter with the next ball.

He wrapped up his hat-trick with the first delivery of his next over, having Andrew Galliers caught by Matt Kerr to reduce the visitors to 57-6.

Karvelas went on to take 4-37 as Havant were dismissed for 128, before hitting 35 with the bat as Hartley got home with three wickets down. Danny Plume top-scored with 58 not out.

Hartley captain Teale said: “Ari has been in really good form with the bat the last couple of weeks, and on Saturday he came good with the ball as well. Hopefully he can put the two together for the rest of the season and give us a real boost.”

The result leaves Hartley mid-table, having won two and lost three of their opening five games. Next up is a trip to third-placed Calmore Sports, who have won four of their first five games, on Saturday.

“Hopefully we can keep going in the right direction this weekend,” Teale added. “Calmore have had a good start and are going well, but hopefully we can end that run, get a second win under our belt and push on up the table.”

Teale missed the Havant game, but he will return to the team this weekend, meaning Hartley will be at full strength.
