HOOK and Newnham Basics B booked their place in the second round of the Finch Group Guy Jewell Cup after a nine-wicket win over Ramsdell in a rain-affected game at May’s Bounty on Monday night.

Ramsdell batted first and made 94-4 from 16 overs thanks to Dave Monger (46) and Gary Clark (36).

In reply, Hook reached 66-1 off nine overs thanks to Keith Lovelock’s excellent knock of 53 not out. The veteran also took 2-24 in the Ramsdell innings, as his side won the game on countback.

The final first round matches in the competition are played next week at May’s Bounty, where Oakley face Chawton on Monday and Dummer and St Mary’s do battle the following night.
