SHERBORNE St John’s Ryan Murray helped Hampshire Academy into the second round of the Southern League T20 Cup as they beat Portsmouth and Southsea last Sunday.

The bowler was part of a five-man attack which limited the Pompey side to 83-8 as they tried to chase down 150. Murray finished with figures of 1-19 from his four overs.

He also played for the Hampshire Academy the previous day, when they lost by five wickets to Havant.

Basingstoke-born Chris Wood was also played in the game and top scored with 71 in the Academy’s total of 219. Wood then bowled a tidy opening spell of six overs which yielded just nine runs without taking a wicket.

He was replaced by Murray (1-41) and he did take a wicket with a pearl of a delivery to remove opener Ben Walker.
