BASINGSTOKE and North Hants III survived a dramatic finale to beat Old Basing by a single run in Hampshire Cricket League County Division Two on Saturday.

Andy Neal made 65 as hosts Basingstoke posted 171-7, with Nick Cooper taking 4-39 for the visitors. No Old Basing batsman was really able to get into their stride during the reply, with Keith Harsham taking 3-22 and Shay Bradley 3-35, but they went into the final over requiring five runs to win.

However, they were still behind with just one delivery remaining and a final-ball run-out saw Basingstoke cling on for the narrowest of victories.

Hook and Newnham Basics II’s Division One trip to Ropley fell victim to the weather, as did Hartley Wintney II’s home game against Littleton and West Hill in Division Three North.

Overton hosted Hook and Newnham Basics III in the same division, and it was the home side who came out on top, winning by 49 runs to move up to second in the table. Overton were bowled out for 226 and while Roy White made 71 for Hook, they were dismissed for 177.

Whitchurch went down by six wickets at Hursley Park II, failing to defend their all-out total of 114.

It was a similar story for Hobos in Division Four North. They were unable to defend their all-out total of 134 away at Dinton, going down by four wickets.

League leaders AWE Tadley had their trip to Crown Taverners abandoned.
