Ex-Saint suffers World Cup injury scare

Basingstoke Gazette: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leaves the pitch in Miami. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leaves the pitch in Miami.

England manager Roy Hodgson has admitted he is concerned about the fitness of ex-Saint Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – just 10 days before their first World Cup match.

Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered an injury scare during the 2-2 draw with Ecuador in Miami when Gruezo kicked the bottom of Oxlade-Chamberlain's right foot and then, while rolling over exaggeratedly, landed on the back of the Arsenal midfielder's leg.

Basingstoke Gazette:

Afterwards, Hodgson said: “Oxlade-Chamberlain is the one that bothers. His knee buckled under the the challenge as the player turned into him.

“He'll have a scan tomorrow, I'd imagine. When we've had the scan, we'll know more.”

so are you suggesting that they shouldn't report on saints games in the future because we know the result?
of course they report this, some people come on here for news and this is news.
the Ox is representing our academy at the world cup, if fit, and I for one hope he`s ok. imagine him on the pitch with lalla an commentators around the world noting that they are both products of saints academy! even more so if luke plays as well.
if it bothers you that much that they put this story on line why did you bother reading it?

Went to the game and Luke Shaw came over at the end and handed my son his shirt. We had our Saints flag and wore our Saints shirts which he spotted during the warm up. Absolutely first class. We then went to the team hotel and met the players. Luke signed the shirt for him and Adam and Rickie signed his Saints shirt. I congratulated Rickie on his move and wished him the best. I said to both Adam and Luke that whatever happens, I wish them all the best. They seemed like they were already gone to be honest.
As we left Ox was coming back from the hospital. Fair play to him, he let me snap a photo with my kids. I asked him if he was okay and he said, very unconvincingly "I hope so". He was limping but not on crutches. Didn't look good for him though,
We have met quite a few Saints fans and it's been a load of fun. It seems everyone hates Spurs, not just us and Arsenal. There were 3 Saints flags in the stadium, more than any other club.
Red and White till I die.

My friend, I was referring to the constant use of ex saint in this (and other) headlines not the content of the article.

I, like you, am interested in all things regarding Saints and I too hope Arsenal midfielder (and ex Saint) Chamberlain is fit to continue.

What is it about Arsenal players and injury. Every knock or bump seems to keep them out for weeks/months yet at Saints players seem to come back early or at least on schedual.

Seconded.

Class from the players and class from you, Andy.

I think most of us are expecting the worst when it comes to Luke and Adam's futures but you never know. As we've recently seen, a week is a long time in football and a month in Brazil (or 2 weeks, perhaps) might see a lot of things happen to bring the smiles back to our faces.

To tell you the truth, I cannot see the point of having pre-world cup friendlies with other teams in the competition. There are plenty of teams that have not qualified or even play and England B or whatever. The idea to try out a formation, not increase adrenalin levels and risk injury to key players - intentional or otherwise!

Sheepish is a great description that I couldn't think of when I wrote my post. Luke and Adam both almost acted a little embarrassed, but sheepish really nails it. Luke was walking throught the hotel lobby talking with Rooney. Perhaps I could get the DE to write one of their exclusives that Luke considers himself part of the Manure group already.
I asked Adam if he thought the new board were committed and he just said "Yeah I think so". Not very convincing from the captain, but to be fair it was just a quick question as he stopped to sign an autograph.
One of my kids has a Gerrard England shirt - he kept walking and wouldn't sign it, although he was the last one getting on the bus.
