HOOK and Newnham Basics II claimed their first win of the season with a four-wicket victory over visiting Ellingham in Hampshire Cricket League County Division One on Saturday.

Gary Binns took 4-35 as the visitors were dismissed for 156, while Ben Allnutt top-scored with 41 as Hook got over the line with four wickets in hand.

Darren Bell hit 52 to help Old Basing to a narrow victory over visiting Liphook and Ripsley II in County Division Two. Bell’s half-century helped the hosts to 180-9 and the visitors came up four runs short, finishing their innings on 176-9.

Basingstoke and North Hants III’s trip to Mudeford was cancelled after the pitch was deemed unfit for play.

It was a bad day for north Hampshire sides in County Division Three North. Overton’s trip to OTs and Romsey III was called off, while the other three local sides in the division suffered defeat.

Hartley Wintney II were bowled out for just 58 and lost by 10 wickets at Redlynch and Hale, while Hook and Newnham Basics III dismissed visiting Steeple Langford for 115 but were then skittled out for 83 to lose by 32 runs.

Whitchurch travelled to Littleton and West Hill – and the hosts batted first, reaching 211-3. James Hayward made 67 in the Whitchurch reply, but they were bowled out for 130 and lost by 81 runs.

Hobos claimed a 49-run victory over Alton III in County Division Four North, making 191-9 before bowling the visitors out for 142. AWE Tadley’s trip to IBM Hursley was cancelled due to an unfit pitch.
