HOOK and Newnham Basics got their Southern League Division One campaign up and running with an excellent seven wicket win at Liphook and Ripsley.

The visitors having had three of their first four games washed out, travelled to side with unbeaten record.

Hook won the toss and bowled Liphook out for 160 as Harry Munt top scored with an unbeaten 64.

The visitor’s top bowler was spinner Anik Divecha (3-31), while Glen Williams took 2-39 from only five overs.

Last time, when Hook played at Liphook they were bowled out for 59, but there was no repeat performance thanks to a super opening partnership between Ben Thane and Jordan Hobday.

Hobday (59) hit a six to bring up his half-century, before being the first man out trapped leg before with score on 117.

Fellow opener Thane (77) remained at centre until the end as the visitors reached a winning score of 162-3, Elliott Hawkins (3-18) taking all the wickets.

This week, Hook, who have moved up to fifth in the table, face a visit from seventh placed Bournemouth.
