BASINGSTOKE and North Hants second XI made it a hat-trick of wins as they beat visiting Alton II at May’s bounty in the Southern League Division Three.

The victory keeps them hot on the heels of leaders Tichborne Park, who they face in a fortnight.

Having won the toss Basingstoke put Alton into bat and Dan King (3-41) was backed up well by Chris Chandler (2-14) and Gerry Dique (2-30) as the visitors were bowled out for 180.

The home side’s reply did not get off to the best of starts, as Lee Nurse dropped for a duck, with just two on the scoreboard.

However, Mo Riwzan (73) and Dique (44) enjoyed a second wicket stand of 118 and then Riwzan and Steve Bucksey (39 not out) added another 44 for the third wicket as Basingstoke reached a winning score of 181-3 with 14 overs to spare.

This weekend, the side are at home again with Waterlooville the visitors.
