HARTLEY Wintney suffered a 59-run defeat against visiting OT’s and Romsey in the Southern League Division Two.

The village side looked in good shape, thanks to an opening stand of 67 from Matt Kerr (40) and Jack Hersh (37) as they tried to chase down 208.

However, the wickets started to tumble and Louis Lynch (15) from 16 balls, which included the only six of the innings, was the only other player to make it into double figures as the home side were bowled out for 148.

Earlier in the game, the visitors looked in trouble at 14-3, after captain for the day, Ari Karvelas (2-27) had struck twice in his opening spell.

Bryn Wathen (57) and Augustus Flack (58) rescued the innings with a six wicket stand of 92.

They were parted by Mark Teale (4-25) in his excellent late spell, as Liphook were bowled out for 207 in the 42nd over.

However, this proved to be enough as Hartley only made 148.

This weekend, Hartley travel to third placed Portsmouth.
