England manager Roy Hodgson has congratulated Liverpool on signing Rickie Lambert from Saints.
The striker’s transfer to Anfield is due to be completed tomorrow, although the player himself will be at a pre-World Cup training camp in Miami by that point.
Lambert passed a medical in Liverpool yesterday and has agreed a two-year contract with the club he supports.
The 32-year-old was an unused substitute for England in Friday night’s 3-0 win against Peru, at Wembley, but is set to feature in Wednesday’s friendly against Ecuador.
Hodgson, who used to manage the Reds, is expecting Lambert to be full of enthusiasm when he takes to the field at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium.
“He is very happy, I am happy for him and I congratulate Liverpool on signing a good player,” he said.
“I am sure that when he plays against Ecuador you will see a fella running around with all the joy that his heart can muster, because he is very happy to be here with England and he is very happy that the move to Liverpool has gone through.”
