BASINGSTOKE wrestling star Rob Holte will get a shot at a prestigious British Heavyweight Championship on Friday, when Varsity Pro Wrestling return to Hatch Warren Community Centre.

At the last event, Basingstoke-born Holte defeated international superstar The UK Kid in a gruelling and spectacular match to earn a title shot.

Holte said: “It’s been a long time coming.

“The match with The UK Kid was one of the toughest of my career. He made me work to win, but I came out on top.

“Since then, I’ve thought of nothing but winning that title in front of my home-town fans. I’ve been training hard with Matt Smart at Smart Health and Fitness, right here in Basingstoke, to ensure I’m on top of my game.”

Holte will face either current VPW Champion, the popular Leon Shah, or German powerhouse Max Von Schultz, justifiably dubbed ‘The Machine’.

Holter added: “Leon and Max are due to face off before I get my shot, so I’ve got to prepare for two different potential opponents.

“Leon is a proven champion, in his second reign as VPW Champion, and Max has destroyed everyone he’s come up against so far. Either way, it will be a challenge – but a challenge I’m looking forward to proving I’m up to.”

The show will also feature outstanding action from the best that British wrestling has to offer, including The UK Kid, High-Flying Nathan Mackenzie, Ladies’ Man Warren Brady and New Zealand’s Jay White.

The action gets under way at Hatch Warren Community Centre on Friday at 7.30pm.

Doors open at 7pm and tickets are available on the door, priced £10 for adults and £8 for children.
