Derby manager Steve McLaren linked with Saints

Basingstoke Gazette: STEVE MCLAREN STEVE MCLAREN

Saints are bracing themselves for the exit of Mauricio Pochettino with Derby boss Steve McLaren emerging as a potential successor, according to the Daily Star.

Spurs have offered Mauricio Pochettino a three-year deal worth £3.5m a year to become their next manager.

The north Londoners hope to have the deal done within the next 48 hours.

Clearly something has triggered this sea change in the press as up until now I really thought MP would stay. However, if not then it is not all bad. I am massively relieved to see Gus Poyet as a favourite as he could easily prove to be an improvement. Please please please not David Moyes or the turgid hack Malky Mackay. Despite some negative comments on here I also would see Steve McLaren as a good move. The easiest way forward is to remember MP is good but not as good as he is painted or perhaps believes himself to be. This is the man who brought Dani Osvaldo to Saints, which given DO's frankly patchy record as a goalscorer to that point, combined with a disciplinary record as long as your arm, should have rung the "AVOID" alarm bells loud. Instead MP's ego prevailed and he thought he could reverse nature and change the leopard's spots. That was a real whopper of a mistake that cost Saints dear. Whatever is going on, MP seems an "unconscionable time a'leavin" (to misquote Charles 1st) so - out with the MP, in with the GP and onwards and upwards. Good luck to MP - with the likes of Levy and Baldini to contend with he will need it!! Spuds are a banana skin not a stepping stone.

NO THANKS - No Duffers need apply to undermine the good work completed in the last years.

Need a TOP MANAGER who can keep our Star Players and get in a Top striker - strenthen at GK and CB.

No Posts from OSPEYSAINT (in CAPS LOCKS). They only appear on important matters like spelling etc

There are two types of fan who post on here, the optimist, also know as the happy clapper, and the pessimist, also known as a doom monger.

One of these will be correct regarding the current situation, as a doom monger I will be very happy to be proved wrong... but my gut feeling is that he has walked.

No Maclaren, Sherwood, Poyet and most definitely not Hoddle.

Thanks Poch it was a very good season, shame you can't see that you're going to a join a list of failures at Tottenham and will be lucky to last 6 months.

Given MP is going, the real issue will be what players are going .?
This outcome will determine our future in the Premiership.

When I said we've already got one,I was talking about Pochettino actually,I'm just fed up with hearing about replacement managers, when we haven't lost the one we've got yet.
Its the press that have stirred this all up,there's not one shred of concrete evidence to show that its even happening at all.

With you 100% mate. A day later than the original post and I'm still saying he ain't gone till he's on the train and still hoping the farthest he's going from St Mary's is to the training ground to look at the next generation of England starlets in the making.

Well said I'm glad i'm not the only one on here who thinks OSPEYSAINT is a right tw t and spends too much of his time picking people up on their spelling errors when they are only trying to express a point of view (THIERS) and they are entitled to that thanks to the Echo.
Regarding the unvacant post of manager of SFC, If the incumbent manager chooses to leave we will all know what he was about (DOSH) and not our club and we must all hope that OSPEYSAINT'S QUEEN as he calls her and her team will be a wise enough to pick a new manager that can and is willing to speak in our native tongue and understands English football.

McLaren plays a similar style to MP. Lots of possession, less pressing but more penetrating. In fact, very similar to NA style.

He has been excellent at Derby and his coaching looks better than when he was England manager.

Not a bad choice, but would be quite harsh on Derby fans.
