RUMOUR MILL, May 23 - Hull City set to offer £3m for Saints defender?

Jose Fonte

Jose Fonte

First published in Sport

FA CUP finalists Hull City are being linked with a £3m move for Saints defender Jose Fonte.

The Portuguese defender has made 169 league appearances for the club since signing from Crystal Palace in January 2010.

But according to the Daily Mirror, Tigers boss Steve Bruce is keen on the centre half who scored Saints' winner at Hull last season.

What a Joke.

CB position needs more strenghtening. Jose had a good Season.

£3 million is laugable.

Why would any of our Team want to drop down to a Team like Hull.

We neec to make a Statement of our 5 year Plan of European Football - of the fight for the Premier League Crown and a Cup and add a Striker - another Goalie and CB.

We want to keep and add to our Squad which is already light and money will need to be spent as well as promoting youth.

He won't leave us for Hull, I don't care what the rumour mill says. All he has to do is google Hull and that will be the end of it.

We can take it now that Luke is almost certainly off to Man United. I think even those who have been chanting the mantra " but Les Reed said" would now accept that!

With Adam I still think he'll go, clutching at tweets from a mate of his is probably a little bit on the optimistic side.

The board MUST make it clear to Poch that he'll be given the money from these two departures, and then some, to replace those players as well as strengthen the squad. IF Poch isn't given what he deems to be enough, he'll more than likely be off. Now if that happens you see if Jay, Morgan and Dejan stick around for too long.

Don't just focus on Luke and Adam, Poch turned this team around from what it was under Nigel to what it is now! Just listen to the praise the players have heaped on him, POCH IS THE KEY! Not only is he a quality coach and manager, but also he will be the major attraction for quality players to join. Lose him and we WILL lose that selling point.

Adam and Luke CAN be replaced. Difficult, but with Poch's knowledge and reputation quality players will be attracted to the club. Whereas trying to replace Poch with a manager bringing anything like what he brings to the table will be impossible!!!

So Saints board, give him a big fat juicy contract and assurances of financial backing in the transfer market, befitting an ambitious club!!!

I see on another thread you have started the day criticising another fan. Posters like yourself come on here with the sole purpose of questioning and criticising posters you deem to be too pessimistic or negative.

Rarely do you put forward any coherent argument, or even anything approaching an argument. The reason for this is that the facts are either not on your side. Your logic is, this poster is being too critical of the club or too pessimistic, MUST ATTACK. It's like having a little fly buzzing around, they must occasionally be swatted, which is where I come in!!!

No sound thinking individual is going to pay that type of fan much heed. There's no real point in entering into any sort of meaningful dialogue with your type, as your motivation for posting is too try and control the opinions of others.

If you are going to come on here and continually pick holes in other posts, at least present reasoned arguments of your own.

RS, he wont go because hull is a dump whilst Luke and Adam will go because liverpudle and mancychester are beautiful cities!
We have to accept that Luke is gone because of the rumours and lalla is gone despite the rumours that diverpool wont pay what we want and tweets from friends saying he wont.
I'm getting confused as to which rumours I'm supposed to believe and those I'm not! What does concern me though is the deafening silence from St Mary's. The season ended 2 weeks ago and still no announcement that MP has signed a contract extension. It's blindingly obvious and has been said countless times, this really is the key as to how we progress. Come on board, get him tied to a 5 year deal and make funds available to strengthen. We are at a crossroads and it needs to be sorted asap. STID

If we wanted to get rid £3million would not be a bad price for an average EPL player in the last year of his contract. Swansea tried that on with Jack Cork in the window. Hopefully we will see some action from the board soon. And let's also hope they arn't panicking as much as a section of the fans are.

I presume you are referring to this comment to montechristosaint: "Given your consistently negative evaluations of nearly everyone related to Saints over the past few years, could you kindly explain who you you believe should take credit for our recent very successful rise from League 1 to 8th in the Premier League?"

Why is that an attack? What facts are not on my side?
Like a couple of others on here, hi Caballo Santos, you seem to be consumed with me, very sad indeed, almost tragic. Although quite flattering for me, in a creepy kind of way!

It might be time to reevaluate your priorities in life and maybe add a bit of structure to them. Just an idea!

I would like to know why we should feel that the number of rumours about Adam & Luke leaving should make the rumours more believable? Seventeen tons of horse manure is still as much a pile of sh!t as a single dropping.

I still don't think either of them will leave; I think they will stay at least another season to see where Saints are going. I've heard nothing convincing to the contrary, other than loads of speculation in the press. And as for how much weight to give that speculation, look at the "transfer rumour" thread in the last few transfer windows, and see how many of the hundreds of rumours ended up having "done deal" put on them....

The club are silent because there's nothing to say. Nothing's changed since Les Read's last statement. So what do you want them to say? It's blindingly obvious that the board and management team are working as hard as they can behind the scenes to sort out everything and prepare for next season, and as soon as they are ready to report something they will.

I suggest we all calm down - it's a bl**dy long time till the end of the window, and with the level of hysteria now, there is a danger of people having heart attacks before it's over!

Stay positive until there's a genuine reason to be negative; life's much more pleasant that way :-)

The majority of transfer rumours are made up by Sky Sports News followed by the latest odd SkyBet are offering, and that the Echo has no idea what is happening behind the scenes at St Marys.

Until the Official Saints website has news on it, I won't accept its happening. Although saying that, I think its probably a given that Shaw is off to Man Utd and Lallana is off to Liverpool.

If Saints get £50 million or more for the pair, then lets hope its reinvested in the squad.

Can't really see Fonte going to Hull or Cork leaving either. Cork is near to the England squad and a decent nest season will probably mean he gets a call from Hogdson. Clyne and Chambers know if Shaw leaves they will be first choice full-backs, so with Targett as back-up we are still fairly strong.

And if, as reported, we are back in for Scott Sinclair then we may have a replacement for Lallana.

Lets hope MoPo can attract some flair players a couple of proven goalscorers, another international centre-back to compete with Lovren and Fonte and a decent 'keeper to challenge Boruc.

Picked up on my electro space scanner a message from Neptune Plsubvruljssi FC offering eighty thousand bdnsmfhjgkdjds for Spiderman. Amazing because this is apparently a very large sum indeed on Neptune.

Of course no worries - Spiderman won't be daft enough to go there. And anyway you have to wonder if they have actually got the right Spiderman?

I haven't bothered to inform the authorities about this contact from afar as I told them about it last year when I found out some football manager's dog has got a bank account on Neptune.

Anyhow, if Plsubvruljssi do sign Spiderman we should go for their striker
Mndnsdhs Bhshdgajdjdurikdhjdh
. He will cost at least 30,000 bdnsmfhjgkdjds but the thing is he (or it) has got nine legs and three heads on the end of eight ft long flexible necks. I mean he could use all those legs to juggle through to the near post and then head the ball across the goal from one of his heads and on to another at the other post to score.

Also heard Hull bidding for Fonte. Mmm - too silly for words that one.
Anyhow, if Plsubvruljssi do sign Spiderman we should go for their striker Mndnsdhs Bhshdgajdjdurikdhjdh . He will cost at least 30,000 bdnsmfhjgkdjds but the thing is he (or it) has got nine legs and three heads on the end of eight ft long flexible necks. Adam is going to Eastleigh on a free as they've just got Promotion and he won't have to move house, Luke is going to Bournemouth for the same reason as Adam and being as he still young he wants to learn more about how to play Football, Jay is off to Reading on a free when he's fit again same reasons as Adam & Luke and Morgan is off to Bognor again on a free for all the same reasons and MP is retiring he's had enough of reading constant rumours.

There that's should put all the other twaddle to the rubbish bin, now if you believe my comments you really do believe in Fairies like I do and when my bottom tooth falls out I will put it under my Pillow when I go to Bed then in the morning it will of changed into a 10p coin and I never tell lies.

In a recent BBC television interview, Nicola Cortese said that in 2012, Saints started a new 5 year plan when they were back in the Premier League, as the original 5 year plan's objective of Premier League football had been achieved.
Nicola Cortese also talked about not selling our best players.

The club has NOT changed its policy since Nicola Cortese resigned. Les Reed made a club statement ages ago. Ralph Krueger has also publicly stated that the club's intention is improvement. Ralph and Les have basically told us similar to Nicola Cortese's words. Simply put, Southampton FC is not a selling club. The financial position of the club is strong, so there is no need to sell. Almost all our best players are on long contracts, so Saints are able to turn down enquiries from other clubs about them, exactly like Nicola Cortese did.

With all this in mind, I feel certain there are still plenty of negative thinking Saints fans who agree with all the media bull manure about any number of our best players being sold to "bigger" clubs during the close season. I say "bigger" because some of these so called "bigger" clubs are in an awful lot if debt, unlike at Saints, where debt is of easily manageable proportion. In contrast, Manchester United are more than 350 million pounds in debt!!! Unlike Manchester United, Saints do not have a playing squad which needs major surgery. But Manchester United fans are confident, despite all the debt and the need for player replacements. So why shouldn't we Saints fans be confident in our Saints continuing to be run as a club that only sells the players it actually wants to sell? Katharina and her board of directors have the target of continuing the improvement, not overseeing a fire sale of our best players. I believe we should have confidence in Katharina and the board to deliver improvement into the future.

All you negative thinking Saints fans have my sympathy. It must be rotten to believe that any number of our best players are to leave the club this summer. Are you sure you want to continue having all the stress you are currently suffering? Have you considered changing your allegiance, by supporting one of those "bigger," hugely debt ridden clubs, where supporter confidence remains high? Or how about going down the road and supporting Pompey, where there is unfortunately so much knowledge about debt and selling their best players? Apologies to Pompey's real fans. I want to see your club back in the big time soon, always losing to Saints! I remember the dark years at Southampton FC, when it was being run as a selling club, which we fans didn't deserve.

These days things are very different at Saints. We have already seen five consecutive years of fantastic improvement. We also know that Katharina intends that progress will continue. We have been reassured by the club and yet there are still Saints fans who surprisingly prefer to believe all the negative bull manure they see and hear from the media, instead of official word from Southampton FC. I remain confident in the way Southampton FC is being run and I remain reassured by the words of Ralph Krueger and Les Reed. I am positive next season will be a good one! I will not believe anything in the media until any of their fiction about Saints becomes fact. Down with media bull manure!

Some on here have convinced themselves that we will not sell any of our stars, Pochettino will stay and sign a couple of world class players and we'll win a champions league place.
Some think that the mass exodus will take place and we'll have a completely different set of players/coaches and will struggle next season.

Personally, I believe that we will lose a few players and possibly the coaching team. I also think that £3m for Fonte would be excellent business.
It's all really about opinions and we should all be entitled to them, some might not agree with them but they should all be respected.
There can be no debate if we all agreed with each other.

Well said. It's nice to know someone else is staying calm and trusting in the owners to do the best they can for the club. I'd like to see Les Reed call a press conference shortly and then go before them and play a tape recording of his previous one. Then just say:- "That concludes this press conference boys and girls" Then stand up and walk out.

Stay positive until there's a genuine reason to be negative; life's much more pleasant that way :-)
This has been my attitude as well, and to a degree it's the only logical one to have amidst the mounting hysteria.

However rumors (especially persistent ones) do often end up having some truth in them, and I just hope the board fully meant all that they said about no sales etc etc etc. If for example the first bit of definite news we get is that Shaw has signed for ManU fans will rightly have serious concerns about where the club is going.

If I have any complaints about the way things are being handled it is that a new contract for Potch should ideally have been agreed in the last few weeks of the season, when after all we had nothing really to be playing for. That of course may be his fault, but it would have put to bed most of the uncertainty in the minds of players and the media.

It's Friday but not yet beer o'clock, and you haven't started a riot, so I'M BL00DY IRRITABLE - OKAY!!!!! Now where's RisingSon? It's all his fault. Strasbourg Saint

It's getting to the point where although it would be a fantastic step in the right direction to have Poochy sign up for another five year plan, that I'm concerned he doesn't appear to be managing at this very moment. Of course I don't have inside info so I may be a million miles wide of the mark on this. He is contracted to Saints for another season and yet there appears to be nobody on the bridge. Teams are lining up to sign Gomis on a free for example. An additional striker or even two seems to be high on our list of requirement for the next step upward and we are giving the appearance that Saints have closed down and buggered off for summer hols and the world cup.
I don't care how much money Saints are alledged to have to owe to asset strip - depending on who you listen to. Saints never have and should never be blind to high class freebies.
The internal toing and froing (if there is any activity) may detract the attention of all and there are gems ready to slip through our fingers.
Hunt and Mame Diouf are worth millions and every seems connected to them except us - Please tell me I'm wrong - I need a good nights sleep.

I personally think we will keep everyone except Luke Shaw, because Man U will make us an offer we cant refuse.
I think Poch will stay also - he must surely be able to see what a poisoned chalice Spurs is.
But then that is just my opinion - I don't really know anything, who does? Only the men themselves know and we will find out what they are up to in due course, so there is no need for any clenched colons on this board...

Unless it's one of our unclean contingent from the wrong end of the M27 and he can give em both barrels then. Otherwise I'm with you on this one.
Exactly!

Like most I enjoy coming on here and sharing my thoughts on the club and reading other fan's points of view. But it is tiring that a little group sit in wait to either slag off or stalk posters they see as not towing their line. What sad lives they must lead, sitting in front of their screens all day waiting to pounce with their feeble little jabs. Don't get me wrong, I'm flattered my posting gives their lives some sort of purpose, but really lads, sort it out!!!

If somebody doesn't agree with me fair play, but when you disagree with somebody it's the done thing to give some sort of reasoning. This lot don't, there's no reasoned argument supporting their opposing stance, just some Mickey Mouse, petty comments or some dozy questions.

No individual is bigger than a club, so we will have to take the hits if and when they happen and move on. Nobody wants an exodus and I’m sure people are fighting our corner behind the scenes to make a good go of it. Mauricio is indeed the key and the sooner that is resolved the better.
He is nearly irreplaceable but I would have been a lot happier if Marcelo Bielsa had not just moved to Marseille. Imagine having the apprentice at St Marys followed by the sorcerer, that would set tongues wagging.

your type? would that be the now infamous `thread police` or `clique`? the idea that people only come on here to `control` what others think is comical to say the least. there are lots of regular posters who have been on this site for years, ive been here since just after we went into admin, and share many opinions and views on the club. you claim many people think the same as you, good for them, but there are as many if not more who don't, that doesn't make them the `thread police` it just means that lots of people want to challenge your opinions and debate facts. if you have to resort to name calling and finger pointing then your argument is meaningless.
your right though, there is no point in entering into debate with people, but its with people who dismiss facts and tangible evidence whilst using rumour and opinion as proof of their argument.
you claim luke is gone and we have to accept that. why do we have to accept that? what proof do you have for this statement? the only `evidence` of any move is tabloid speculation and internet rumour. if you have `proof` please let us all now.
today you said that Jose wont go to hull because its hull. so why is hull different to any of the cities I mentioned before? if you look up the worst cities in England on google one of the first sites you will come across is the telegraph and at No.4 of their top ten is this little gem,
"Grotty post-war developments characterise this town", said one Telegraph writer. "It says something when the biggest tourist attraction is the shopping centre.
"As Britain's major cruise port, it's nothing short of an embarrassment".
that's right its Southampton! hull wasn't even in the top ten and any quick search will show that Hull had won the UK City of Culture 2017 award.
so the google search you suggest should mean players wont come here and would go to hull instead!
right I think that's a reasoned argument!
I cant tell you that players aren't going to leave or which players will leave because I don't know! all I can do is go by the facts and evidence that's been presented, no proof of any bids or that any bids have been turned down, no proof that either player wants to go or stay, except Lallas mates post (which if you look I posted about the other day and said it would be nice if true but im not putting any faith in it!) I don't know if MP will go or stay, or if he has had a new contract offer or not. what I do know is most of the rumours about our players start in one paper, so why is that paper getting all the `scoops`?

No individual is bigger than a club, so we will have to take the hits if and when they happen and move on. Nobody wants an exodus and I’m sure people are fighting our corner behind the scenes to make a good go of it. Mauricio is indeed the key and the sooner that is resolved the better.
He is nearly irreplaceable but I would have been a lot happier if Marcelo Bielsa had not just moved to Marseille. Imagine having the apprentice at St Marys followed by the sorcerer, that would set tongues wagging.
It would indeed!

I agree that people are fighting our corners and to be fair to them they are limited in what they can do. All we can do is prove our ambition.

For me Poch is by far our biggest asset. I don't reckon Poch is one of these flavour of the month managers, who have a purple patch and then fade away. This guy's the real deal and he's our manager.

Luke and Adam leaving will not be good, but if Poch stays, IMO, it would stop the other dominos falling. If the board has any sense it will be putting in front of him the kind of contract a man with his ability deserves, as well as making guarantees as to his summer war chest.

With Poch here the future will still be really bright, even without Luke and Adam. With him gone our pulling power in the market will deminish, as will our league standing.

Well said!
Are you listening Rising, Cabbie Santos and the human vidiprinter?

Show some RESPECT to your fellow posters on here!!!
I haven't call people "The Prat Pack!", Stepford Wives, Rubes, Muppets, etc.. Quite who should be showing people respect?
No but you and others have bullied posters off the site by constantly posting petty comments at them. The mistake you lot made was coming after me. You should have stayed in the shallow end!!!

Look at my original post this morning, which was an honest take on what's important for the club. And then look at the petty responses from you and Cabbie Santos, it says it all really!!

Btw, the fact that you remember so many of names I have dubbed your motley crew, is further proof of how consumed you are.

Now let's drop it because it's frightfully petty.
LET'S ALL PLAY NICE!

Rising we have been over this before!!, Most of your posts you ask questions in a pointed fashion of some poor poster who has shared an opinion. You don't actually enter into what is an actual debate on the merits of what the poster has actually said, where you would share YOUR opinions. Now, and in this case I'm not saying this is you, but when a poster who may have a pecimistic take on something gets petty little comments calling him a skate from not just one, but a few other posters, that to me is a form of bullying. Why would that poster come back and share his opinion, if he's greeted that way? Yes the real skates who come on here get what they deserve, but a Saints fan?

As you can see above a few other posters agree with what I'm saying.

Also I have given you my opinions when I have them. You seem to have a very convenient memory.

Look at my original post this morning, which was an honest take on what's important for the club. And then look at the petty responses from you and Cabbie Santos, it says it all really!!

OK. We've all been edged towards looking at the negatives by the media, but how about some positives?

The longer there is no news the more likely it is that we will keep MP in my opinion. The back room changes this week suggest that someone, either our current manager or someone coming in, is getting extra power to determine the club's direction at all levels.

Secondly, selling Luke, if it happens, can, bizarrely help us to keep all our other players, not just by giving us funds, but by helping us send out a further statement that we are going places.

Celtic have no manager and they have financial problems. Let's buy in their keeper and continue that investment in youth and use the considerable money over (probably £15 million or so) to buy a commanding future England centreback, maybe Caulker.

Nobody else, including Adam, are allowed to leave.

Offload Dani and possibly Gaston, invest in a striker (maybe Welbeck if we want to continue to dominate the current England squad, or Boni, Michu, that young Arsenal striker), and we're looking good.

Just a thought, but maybe it will be our England players luring their team mates to St Mary's rather than the other way around. They set a pretty good example of what's possible at our club.

Up the Saints!!!
Like me you my friend will be branded , wait for it ....A HAPPY CLAPPER!!!!

Up the Saints!!![/p][/quote]Like me you my friend will be branded , wait for it ....A HAPPY CLAPPER!!!! hedge end bob

Plenty of Dutch Caps at Old Trafford next season then, that doesn’t sound like a promising recipe for the re-birth of a club. Having said that, there appears to be a fair amount of premenstrual tension on this forum today, let’s hope the world cup brings some welcome relief all round.

If the Hull rumour of a request for Jose is true I would say fair play to Steve Bruce, he has been a shrewd dealer for them, Huddlestone, Jelavic and Long have been inspired signings. If we can have Huddlestone or Curtis Davies as part of the deal then I say let’s talk.

Mauricio Pochettino looks set to sign a new contract with Southampton despite reported interest from Tottenham.

The future of the Saints boss has been in doubt since the club’s chairman Nicola Cortese resigned in January, with Spurs thought to be leading the chase for the highly-rated Argentine.

But despite the higher profile and additional funds he would likely receive at White Hart Lane, it appears Pochettino has opted for another season at St Mary’s.

The 42-year-old took over from Nigel Adkins in January 2013, guiding the Saints to a 14th-placed finish last term, before an impressive eighth-placed finish this year.

Every season I have followed Saints was going to be better than the last. I've been following a great many years and in a great many postings abroad.
This coming season will be no different. In reality there have been far more downs than ups but even if the crown jewels (Doctor Spoch included) depart there will be some money to spend (who knows how much for sure) there will be new players to replace those who go and to enhance those who stay. Another manager will come in and stamp his mark for better or for worse (we'll know more about that at the end of the season) and I'll go boring all the youngsters I talk to about how magical Marian and Matt and Mickey were. At the end of all the speculation, dirty deals, disloyal decisions, ins and outs there will still be my beloved Saints FC - I'll still pay for a ticket when I can and I'll still watch them on the telly and I'll still tune in to Solent.
But I really do hope for some news soon, even neg news as long as it appears someone is doing something - the suspense is worse than waiting for the final whistle on a game between other clubs which will decided the goal difference and whether Saints scrape by or go down - and we all remember how slowly the clocks in those days took to crawl round to 5 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon.
Someone mentioned there was to be a press conference yesterday - I'm guessing by the silence on here about it that it never occurred - anyone spread any light on it?

Again a bit of a non-story I'm afraid. Dr Spoch has no choice but to opt for, "Another season at St Mary's". The reason being he is contracted to Saints until the end of next season.

Now, if they had reported he had signed a new contract keeping him at St Mary's until ????????? Then it would have been of some comfort to those like me, willing to grasp at any positive sign at all. It may even have been newsworthy.

Seems the reporters for this rag went to the same journalism college as those writing for the DE. They clearly didn't skip the lecture on how to write blx say nothing other than the totally bleeding obvious and pick up a cheque module.

Just in case anyone else wants to read it.
Also taken from today's Metro - Final Third by Gavin Brown.

Player of the Year – Adam Lallana
Luis Suarez took the more prestigious awards (no fancy dinner for Final Third, although I can probably stretch to a KitKat) so let’s share the love around. While we always knew Suarez was good – okay, but maybe not that good, Lallana’s brilliance has only just become obvious to the world outside St Mary’s.

Calm and comfortable in possession, the Southampton captain also repeatedly displayed his ability to play the killer pass. A rarity among English attacking midfielders in that he relies more on guile and technique than pace and power, the 26-year-old’s gifts are unlikely to diminish in his early 30s. Already at ease at international level Lallana, who Liverpool want to supply Suarez next season, deserves the chance to start at the World Cup. If he was foreign, we’d be purring.

Nice accolade and what we all know already.
Need to keep him !

There is a programme and memorabilia fair at St Mary's today. I hope they are not just there to cover that and there is indeed something in the air.
My prayers and offerings to the god may be answered today after all.

Yet more rumours...no news is not necessarily bad news in fact it could be quite the opposite but again we can only speculate. I see that Rickie Lambert is saying it is a shame about Jason Dodd and Paul Williams being sacked now, the overtones from players are only adding to the anxiety. It wouldn't do Saints any harm to make some kind of announcement about something be it negative news or positive. I can't believe this constant speculation is good press for our club. I know what Les Reed said a few weeks ago but also since then a lot of speculation has emerged from all over the place and the sackings of Dodd and Williams (not even a statement of thanks) have taken place. All seems a bit odd, lets hope the board know what they are doing and that we have some news soon. Realistically even if we lose a couple of players we won't lose the 12 or so that the press thinks we will and as long as we reinvest well (if we do indeed sell) then our journey continues. There are a lot of good players that would fit our team ethic well playing for clubs below us (or above us but not getting into the team) who surely could be tempted to join the revolution here - Caulker, Huddlestone, Delph, Marshall/Ruddy, Richards, Hernandez to name a few...Bring on next season!!

Of course the players are going to say it is sad Doddsy and Williams are leaving - would be pretty harsh not to give them the credit they deserve.

I don't think you need to read anything into that from a negative perspective anyway. I expect several of the players were similarly upset when Nigel left, and so they should have been, but you only make a real judgement when their replacements are appointed and we find out if the manager is staying.

Fickle world of football.

Anyway, where's Flash when you need him?

Yeah, but that was the terms for buying the official matchday programme of the Zenith Data Cup Final vs Nottingham Forest, autographed by Terry Hurlock.

Are those vans still down there anyway? Somebody had better tell their official sites, and the bookies come to think of it.

If it is true, it's a very good example that the press, bookies and media really don't know very much.

Having said that, I drove past SMS a couple of hours ago and all I could see was the resident seagulls fighting over the remains of a discarded sandwich and a couple of pigeons waiting on the side for the scraps.

Fonte ( like Cork) is down to one year left on his contract. Why the club have let this happen is beyond me. The club needs to stick or twist shortly. The problem now is one would guess that neither player will be keen to extend at the moment with all the chaos within the club.

If you say that they are both worth £4 million pounds and that value reduces to zero in June 2015 then we are losing over £150,000 or so ( i.e £8 million divided by 52) per week on these two players over the course of the season. How does that make commercial ( let alone footballing) sense.

We are a rudderless ship at the moment.

We are a rudderless ship at the moment.
What a ridiculous post. Chaos at the club? You base that statement on speculation, not events. In Rafa Benitez fashion let's look at the FACTS so far:

We currently have a great manager, we finished higher than we ever did before, we have three players in the England squad, several others are playing for other nations at the World Cup. Our players and manager are so good that we are getting OFFERS for them from the country's elite clubs (although to be honest I admit that last bit isn't necessarily a fact).
Our owner, and Les Reed have said publicly that we don't need to sell anyone unless our manager wants to sell that player and we have funds to spend.

Anything else said in the past four weeks or more is just speculation and people reading between the lines on quotes from players or people saying they don't have anything to say.

That's the facts. Now, on those two players. Jose Fonte isn't the youngest. I think until this season we weren't 100% sure of his future with the club. Now I think he has a role to play most definitely, but is he first choice if we are aiming top six? Not sure.

So do we need to rush? Not really. Great servant to the club, but I don't think either party needs to get anxious. If we want to keep him I'm sure he feels at home here and I don't think it would involve long negotiations.

Jack Cork - great player also and youth on his side. I expect us to keep him and I expect he will want to stay, depending on the outcome of the management situation.

In terms of the club letting it get to this situation, I doubt Jack wanted to sign pre-Christmas, but I think he is probably way more open to it now. In his case I expect he wouldn't commit to us because he's not happy sitting on the bench. Fair enough. Now I think he will.

However, we don't need to be held to ransom. We have several very high quality central midfielders and Jack is just one of them. The good news is that, if we do have to let one of our more highly marketable centre midfielders go (Spider being the one attracting interest), he is going to slot in with zero upheaval. And we have JWP queuing up as well. Doesn't sound like a crisis or chaos to me.

Oh, and he's worth way more than £4 million in my opinion. If Victor is worth £10 million, Jack is worth at least that. Should Mo Po stay and convince him he's got a good shot at being a regular I think he'll sign within weeks.

One other thing. Risking losing money by not agreeing long lucrative deals is one risk, but don't forget the other side of the coin - the cost of having to pay players on long contracts who have no realistic chance of making the team and are on perpetual loan. This is illustrated by the number of 'ghost' players that were or are stuck on our books and the books of other clubs: Osvaldo, Mayuka, Barnard, Forecast etc spring to mind and we're hardly the worst for that.

Have i missed a club statement saying ,we don't know what is going on the players will not talk to us. We are completely in the dark how to run this cub ??.

Dani to go - agree with you if we can get someone to actually pay for him.

Ramirez - Sorry can't agree the man is classy and we've yet to see the best of him. Can't wait to see him strut his stuff in an injury free season next season.

Welbeck has nothing to offer that we don't already have better of. Gomis and/or Diouf on frees. Hunt to go down the flanks (free).

Love the idea of Ricky and co luring the England young fringe players to us.

Just cannot wait for the wheeling and dealing to begin no matter who stays or leaves.
Saints are quality and only going to get better.

Several quality keepers we might be able to poach, Ruddy/Marshall/Foste
r/Fabianski.
Two CB's Caulker and Lescott

Not sure about Lescott. Any one of the keepers is a good shout as is Caulker.
Agree with you about Gaston and he could be like a new signing next season now he's had a season in PL and if he can get his act together.
We need to add a decent proven goal scorer.
Papers are saying Hernandez could be on his way from Manure. He could be a good signing if the money was right IMO.
Let's hope the news that Pochettino is staying is confirmed so we can relax a bit and start to get excited about new signings and our boys having a great World Cup

We want to keep and add to our Squad which is already light and money will need to be spent as well as promoting youth.
we hada chance for a cup last season but didnt want it !!

If Saints Chairman continue's to hold his cards, even the most die hard supporters will begin to loose interest, the saying that no news is good news don't seem to wash for many but a little update now and then will most certainley give us a bit of hope and satisfaction and probably help slow down the rumors and absolute bull that we are getting from the media almost every day, at least tell us the honest direction that the club intends to take.
All that we really want to know, "Is Mopo staying or leaving". I wonder if he knows what his future is yet for himself with SFC, as I think that is the main question that should answer all others.
