BOWSAW Lake was on top form for Kennet Ospreys’ visit last Sunday, with nine weights over 100lb and six between 80lb and 100lb.

Steve Hunt topped the field with 186lb of carp on pole and meat. Terry Bowles continued his fine run with 181lb of carp, again on pole and meat. Graham Shadwell’s 175lb 4oz and Ian Jones’ 136lb 12oz were also pole and meat affairs.

Last Wednesday’s evening match at Whitehouse Lake saw me have a rare win with 19lb 14oz of tench, carp and bream on pole, paste and meat. Brian Orchard’s 17lb 14oz was next, followed by Bartosz Recki with 12lb 10oz.

There is a match every Wednesday evening for the foreseeable future at either Whitehouse Lake or the adjacent New Barlows Lake, draw at 5pm.

Six fished an interesting venue.

Martin Wickens put 103lb 6oz in the sack on pole and paste, while Roger Sargent’s 89lb 12oz made up the frame.

Kennet Osprey have a tough draw in the next round of the National Supercup competition. The local side are away to Guildford Angling Centre, and Match Scene in a three-way tie at Willingshurst Lakes in Surrey. The match will be on Sunday, June 8.

I had a brilliant holiday in Ireland, where I ate too much and drank too much and, in between, caught good bags of dace and roach plus the occasional bream. It was back to reality, with porridge for breakfast, salad for lunch and sugar-free drinks with ’er indoors in charge.

And by the way, Arsenal won the FA Cup, much to the chagrin of those Tottenham supporters.

Catch me next week.
