EIGHT artistic girls from Basingstoke Gymnastic Club have competed in Hampshire county grades.

The weekend started with two seven-year-olds, Mia Fergusson and Katie Granton, competing.

This was their first-ever competition and both gymnasts held their nerve, completing the competition with distinctions.

The following day, Tasha Slocock and Abbie Vaux competed at grade 14 and both girls started and finished strongly.

Vaux passed her grade, narrowly missing out on a distinction, while Slocock got a distinction with two top 10 finishes on floor, and range and conditioning.

Gymmasts Katie Curran, Daisy Tolhurst and Jayda Pechova then competed at grade 12. All finished in the top eight with distinctions.

Curran was crowned county champion overall after she won the beam and bar – along with taking fourth place on vault.

Tolhurst was fifth overall with a fifth place on vault and second on the bar. Pechova was seventh.

The last Basingstoke gymnast in action was Jade Westfoot, competing at grade 11.

She finished second overall after collecting a second on the beam, third on the bars and fourth on floor.

The results meant six girls, Fergusson, Slocock, Pechova, Tolhurst, Curran and Westfoot, qualified for the regional finals, to be held at Basingstoke Gymnastic Club.
